Stineman and Cox Take First Midvale Wins
August 18, 2018
The day started out with uncertainty but quickly turned into beauty by the end of the evening. It looked as though Mother Nature would cancel us before we even got to the track, but the skies would not open up and the forecast improved as we went through the day. Our wonderful Sponsor's, Partner's, Official's, Driver's, Team's and FAN'S would show up to the track with 47 Bicycles, over 60 Backpacks and a ton of other prizes that were given out on Christmas In August with the CRS Truck Series presented by Federated Auto Parts and 99.9 WTUZ. There were fifty five cars and trucks on the property and it was partly cloudy and 83 degrees at race time.

The first feature to hit the Speedway was the CRS Truck Series 50 lapper. The point leader Jeremy Wiggins was unable to start due to rear end issues on his #24 truck. Justin Courtney in the #5 and the #23 of Robert Schraam started up front. As the green flag waved, Courtney immediately pulled his machine to the infield with an apparent front suspension issue. Schraam would take the race lead for the first three circuits until the #37 of Spencer Stineman showed up on the scene. Spencer was driving the truck that his dad drove to victory back in June at Midvale. Spencer has always ran well in an Open Modified at Midvale, but could never catch a break. He was determined to change that. Stineman would try to take the top spot for several laps, but Schraam was able to hang on. The first caution flew on lap 8 as the #04 of Bailey Delfosse and the #27 of Bob Papuga got together on the front straightaway. Schraam would lead the first couple laps after the restart until Stineman was finally able to complete the take over on lap 11. A lap later, Mark Lushes in the #112 was able take over second. Stineman would continue to stretch out the distance between himself and Lushes until the second caution flew on lap 22 for another Papuga spin. The restart had Lushes on the outside of Stineman with 28 laps to go. Stineman would get a great restart and cleared Lushes into turn. Stineman would start to inch back away as Lushes started showing some smoke out the back of his green machine. The smoke would continue to get a little worse every lap and he would be forced to pull off on lap 34. That left Stineman with a full straightaway lead over Schraam when the third and final caution waived at lap 36 as William Lundberg broke a rear end and lost power off turn two. Stineman would clear Schraam off turn two on the restart. The final fourteen laps saw Stineman in complete control and on a cruise into DLP Commercial Maintenance Victory Lane for the first time in the Series and at Midvale. Following the LaGrange OH driver in the Young & McCarthy, 137 Race Cars, Perfection Fabrication and HMS Industries sponsored #37 was Schraam, Mike Smith, Brian Taylor and Lundberg.

Next to hit the Speedway was Bob Page in the #67 and the #4 of Jerry Devore leading the Summit Racing Economy Modified's in for the start of their 25 lap feature. Page, making his first start in quite some time on asphalt, would take the top spot early on. Jason Grewell in the #99 would take over the second spot on lap 3 from Devore. Grewell was looking for another podium finish in back to back weeks. Just after Grewell was able to get by the #4, Devore got loose off turn two and made some contact with the #23J of Phillip Cox. After the contact, Devore spun and collected the outside wall and the #65 of Dan Harding. Devore would be the only one that was unable to continue. On the restart, Page fought hard as Grewell tried to take away the top spot in the outside lane. Cox would make some slight contact with Page off turn 2, stacking the inside line up, handing Grewell the top spot. Cox was able to get around Page for 2nd and Lee McCreery in the #2 moved up to third. The Championship contenders Mack Gribble in the #12 and fastest qualifier Kevin McClintock in the #38, were boxed into the 4th and 5th positions respectively. On lap 9, Cox drove his machine deep into turn three to get along side Grewell for the lead. Grewell would slide in behind off turn four and would be forced to watch the #23J get smaller out his windshield. He fought hard to hold off McCreery, Gribble, McClintock and company for the second position, to take a step up on the podium from last week. Cox would end a two year winless as he would take his first career Modified victory. Following the Sherrodsville OH driver in the Jeff Lindstorm owned #23J was Grewell, McCreery, Gribble and McClintock.

The MAD Bro's Games & Hobbies Mini Truck's took to the track for their 12 lap event, with the #99 of Ryan Shreffler and the #14 of Scott Lindell leading the field to green. Shreffler would push up in turns one and two, allowing Barney Gerber in the #2T and Tim Scott in the #4 to get underneath the lead duo. Four wide rarely works, and in this case, that statement again rang true. Shreffler would be forced out of room and he would clip Lindell in the left rear. That sent the #14 down the track, into the #4 and then on a wild barrel roll down the back straightaway. His black and green truck would end up coming to rest on its lid after 4 1/2 - 5 rolls. Before the wheels stopped spinning, Lindell squirted out the passenger side of his truck, miraculously ok. A testimate to the safety of his truck and his equipment, everything worked as it should, allowing him to walk away. After the complete restart that had the #118 of Brandon Locker and Gerber on the front row, Locker was able to lead laps 1 thru 5 as Gerber and fastest qualifier Rich Schweitzer in the #84 battled for second. Gerber decided on lap 5, that he had enough. He shot by Schweitzer and Locker, on the outside and into the top spot. Schweitzer would pass Locker for second and started to pressure Gerber once again. Schweitzer was all over the rear decklid of the #2T, but Gerber was un-phased. He would go on to pick up Division leading 5th win of the season. Completing the top 5 behind the Dover OH driver in the RV Parts Express, Swiss Auto Mart, Pied Piper Muffler and Brake, Bud & Tooties, Club McKay and Badstone Band sponsored #2T was Schweitzer, Locker, Roger Baucher and Shreffler.

The #22 of Cody Jaberg and the #1 of Bryant Smith led the field to Chief Starter Terry Colletti's green flag for the McIntosh Oil Company Late Model's. The last time these two started side by side for a feature, it was a sensational race, with Jaberg coming out victorious. The duo would stay side by side, trading the lead back and forth until Bryant was able to wrestle away the top spot on lap 4. Ryan Tedesco in the #701 cleared Jaberg for second on lap 5 and he brought Bubba Smith in the #12 with him. Tedesco and Bubba are neck and neck in an epic point battle. The first caution flew on lap 8 as Bob Schneider Jr in the #17 and Tom Stankiewicz in the #42 got together in turn two. Stankiewicz was unable to get his machine to refire, ending his night. That put Bryant and Tedesco side by side for the restart. Smith had the advantage in turn one but slipped up into Tedesco slightly as they drag raced down the back straightaway. Heading into turn three, Smith slid way up the track and into Tedesco, stacking up the field and allowing Bubba to scream by on the inside to the lead. Bryant appeared to be experiencing a problem and was heading to the pit area when Tedesco made contact with the rear of the #1, spinning Smith around I turn one. That brought out the caution, sending Tedesco to the tail and Bryant was done for the evening with suspension damage. Back under green, Bubba shot past Jaberg and out front, where he would check away from the field by almost 2 seconds. On lap 11, Tedesco was able to make his way back up to the second spot and he started inching in on Bubba slightly every lap. But the closest he could get was 1.3 sec on lap 25. Bubba would take home the victory and leap frog Tedesco by a couple points, to take over the lead in the season standings. Rounding out the top 5 behind the North Canton OH driver in the Finish Line Motors, Finish Line Designs, Smith's Auto Sales and Freedom Auto Finance sponsored #12 was Tedesco, Jaberg, Schneider Jr and Bob Eichel.

The Buckey Mowing Street Stock's were up next for their 20 lap feature. Bob Passwaters Sr in the #75 and Dave Marder in the #25 started on the front row. Marder would lead but off turn four, Bill Aubihl in the #31 lost a right rear wheel, ending his night after 3 straight good finishes. Passwaters would take advantage and lead as Marder sputtered. Coming off turn four on the opening lap, Kyle Rector in the #22 would get by Passwaters Sr for the race lead. On the second lap, Kyle Grove in the #3 was able to work his way to second. On lap 6, points leader Gabe Pringle in the #7 was trying to pass Marder for the 4th spot, when the two made contact. Pringle was done for the night with a broken rear axle and Marder was sent to the tail. On the restart, Rector was able to keep Grove at bay and then finally clear him on lap 9. Colton Ritchey in the #21 moved up to the third spot on lap 10. The final caution flew on lap 14 as Marder slowed in turn two after contact with the #77 of Josh Moss. On the final restart, Grove got a great jump and was able to take the lead from Rector to hang on to back to back victories. Following the Uhrichsville OH driver in the El Pueblito Mexican Cuisine, Mission Nutrition, CNAC Financing, S&K Auto Detailing & Audio and Affordable Towing sponsored #3 was Rector, Moss, Passwaters Sr and Bob Passwaters Jr.

The final race of the evening was the 15 lap South Philly Pizza Compact feature. "Little Animal" Tyler Eichel in the #4E and the #2 of Billy Hilliker led the field to the stripe. Hilliker would lead lap 1 by a nose before clearing Eichel on lap 2. Brandon France in the #38 was without his dancing partner, so he jumped to the outside solo and moonwalked his way to the top spot on lap 3. Bart Busby in the #31 was able to work his way to second on lap 4 and Mike Stuber in the #69 took over 3rd. On lap 8, Busby started searching for a way around France. Time and time again he tried and time and time again, France prevailed. Kyle Finlayson in the #15 made it a 4-way battle for the top spot as he jumped to the outside of Stuber. Busby would continue to try as the laps wore down, but France was not giving up the lead. France would hang on for his 4th win of the season and extending his point lead by a couple. Rounding out the top 5 behind the Dover OH driver in the South Philly Pizza, Keith's Cars, France Trucking, France Racing sponsored #38 was Busby, Finlayson, Josh Peebles and Stuber.

We cant THANK Federated Auto Parts in Uhrichsville, 99.9 WTUZ Radio along with BIG Z Sports, Over The Rail Dining, Sarchione Ford of Waynesburg, Canton Auto Salvage, Route 39 Auto Salvage, Ennis Hauling and the countless race teams, drivers, officials and fans that stepped up and purchased Bicycles, Backpacks and items to giveaway. If I missed anyone, I apologize, it was overwhelming the outpouring we had last night for the kids!!
THATS WHAT A RACING FAMILY IS ALL ABOUT!!
We also want to thank the 1 JR Sprint that made it to the track and got the chance to practice and run some exhibition laps....we truly hoped for more to give them a place to race.

We hope to see everyone this coming Saturday Night August 25th as Ferris Chevrolet presents the McDonald's Cruise-In Night. There are only 3 point nights left and 4 nights of racing total until we turn the sporting world over to Football and Basketball.....dont miss your chance to come out and support your local track!!
