Ohio's Fun Place to Race!! 2026 Race Season |
 | May 10, 2014 |
After the early weeks of the 2014-campaign, Midvale Speedway drivers and teams are fine tuning their automobiles for a stretch run at the 3/10-mile asphalt oval championship. Two weeks were completed before rain washed out the May 10 program.
McIntosh Oil Company Late Model leading rookie, Randy Smart, tops the list of all drivers in the standings after two weeks. Smart has already set fast time and finished 2nd in a feature to boost him to the top. Mike Miller, the seven time Midvale Speedway champion, won a feature event during week #2 and is second in points, while Ron Kirkpatrick, Bob Schneider, Jr., and Rick Sibila complete the top five in the standings. Bryant Smith, who won the opening night feature, is running a part time Midvale schedule after taking last year's championship.
In the Summit Racing Economy Modifieds, Kevin McClintock, a six time Midvale Speedway champion including last year's Mod championship, looks like the early favorite for this year's championship. Steve Mowery has been fast and is second in points, while Jason Grewell, Lucas Ripley, and Mike Bowers are all having nice starts. McCreery won the opening night feature, while Tim Westerfield, Jr. has now been credited with Saturday's win after a pair of dq's.
Finishes of 2nd and 1st have propelled Canton, Ohio driver Mike Martin into the first spot in the J.D. Byrider Street Stock points. Martin cleaned house on the May 3 program in the Street Stock and Mini Truck divisions by setting fast time, winning the fast heats, and claiming both features in the two divisions. Opening night winner, Gary Hoopingarner, finds himself second in points, while Todd Miller/Josh Moss have a combined effort in third, followed by Waylon Orr and Bob Passwaters, Sr.
In the Canton Auto Salvage Compact division, Kyle Grove has dominated his way to the point lead by 24 over Clayton Oliver. Oliver quietly has been running well and put himself into the number two spot. Dan Buckey has two podium finishes for third, while Kyle Finlayson and Larry Ennis, Jr. complete the top five. Grove has won both of the fast features this season, while Brent Shreffler and Laney Striejewske have taken the B-Features.
Up next on the schedule will be this coming Saturday, May 17 with Late Models, Economy Modifieds, Street Stocks, Compacts, and Mini Trucks scheduled to race. Pursuits will be run in addition to heats and features.
Pit gates will open Saturday at 2:30, hotlaps and grandstands at 3:00, qualifying at 4:45, and racing will begin at 6:30. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 62+, $8 for kids 6-15, and children 5 and under are free. Pit admission is $25 for members and $30 for non members.
