Ohio's Fun Place to Race!! 2025 Race Season |
 | June 16, 2012 |
In addition to the regular Saturday night program this week, Midvale Speedway was also in action this past Wednesday with a $5 grandstand admission special. Pure Stocks and Compact ran 50 lappers that night, while all divisions competed on Saturday.
During the Wednesday night show, Dover, Ohio driver Bill Aubihl extended his point lead with his fourth feature win of the year in the Pure Stock 50-lap feature event. Aubihl was hounded lap-after-lap by top qualifier Teddy Oliver, who could never pull alongside. Mike Martin, Joe Linard, and Don Boron, Jr. completed the top five during the main event. Aubihl also won a heat and pursuit. Vince Martin won the dash, while Don Boron, Jr. took the second heat.
The 50-lap event on Wednesday night was a good race that had the Compact and Stock Compact divisions running together on the big oval. Wes Ennis raced out front early, but his toughest challenge came soon behind by way of top qualifier, Kyle Rector. The two made contact while racing for the lead. Ennis continued, while Rector pulled to the pits. Ennis claimed the victory and dedicated it to the late A.J. Diano. Mike Swaney, Braden Swaney, Tim Frederick, and Dustin DelVecchio completed the top five. Rector had set fast time and won the dash and heat. Mike Swaney took the pursuit. The Stock Compact portion was claimed by Chris Bloom who had a great night, winning the dash, heat, pursuit, and feature. Dan Buckey set fast time.
Powder Puff racing was also held during the Wednesday show. Monica Martin slammed the wall while crossing the finish line to win the Pure Stock Powder Puff race. Martin was clipped in the right rear by another car, which created the grinding crash and a broken wrist. Amanda Diano, the daughter of former racer, A.J. Diano, claimed the Compact Powder Puff win.
The Saturday, June 16 program had all five divisions in action with kid's bicycle races at intermission. The program went great for most and the fans were treated to some of the most exciting action of the season.
In the McIntosh Oil Company Late Model 30 lap event, Mark Willison led for a decent while, looking to claim his third win of the season. However, pressuring him from behind was Bryant Smith, looking for his second victory. The duo put on a display of on the edge driving at the front, while Rick Sibila was trying to run them down. Smith had a couple of runs to the inside lane, only to have Willison hang on. Later, Willison pushed up and opened the bottom lane which was exactly what Smith needed to pull alongside. After an exciting side-by-side battle, Smith went on to cross the line first. The Canton, Ohio driver was followed by Sibila, Willison, Bubba Smith, and Ron Jaberg, Jr. Bob Schneider, Jr. and Ed Middaugh won the heats, while Willison won the pursuit. Sibila set fast time.
Second year Modified driver, Alex Rosenberry, used the outside lane to race to the front in the Summit Racing Economy Modified feature event. It wasn't easy, though, as veteran Ron Dague, gave it everything he could to hold off the advances. Doug Meyer followed Rosenberry close for much of the race, but the youngster never made a mistake and claimed his second career victory. Randy Smart, Kevin McClintock, and Dague were top five finishers. Justin Courtney won the fast heat while Dague took the second heat and pursuit. Smart set fast time.
Mike Martin finally got his bad luck season turned around on Saturday night. After setting fast time on a handful of occasions this year, only to have bad luck eliminate him from possible win contention, Martin got to the front early in the Pure Stock feature. Teddy Oliver, who has been extremely quick the last few weeks, came up just short of his first feature win again and finished second. Martin was followed by Oliver, Joe Linard, Don Boron, Jr., and Tom Early. Bill Aubihl won the fast heat and pursuit, while Josh Flesher won the second heat. Martin also set fast time.
Wes Ennis made it two in a row by claiming the big track Compact feature this past weekend. Ennis, coming off of the 50 lap win on Wednesday, backed it up with another solid effort to take the lead from Rich Dunlap. Dunlap ran a strong second, while Braden Swaney, Tom Barrett, and Bryce Allensworth completed the top five. Allensworth set fast time, while Ennis won the heat and Swaney won the pursuit.
On the small oval, the Stock Compacts saw Kohlten Bryan claim his first win of 2012. The second year driver held off the hard charging Dan Buckey to chip a few points off of his title lead. Chris Bloom, Tim Frederick, and Gary Gibson claimed top five finishes. Bryan won the pursuit, while Frederick was top qualifier and won the heat.
In addition to the car racing, bicycle racing was held and a number of kids went home with trophies in one of the biggest turnouts of bicycles in recent memory. Big Brother/Big Sisters were also on hand and make over $400 on the bicycle raffle that was held.
This coming Saturday, June 23 will see all five divisions in action. At intermission, all the competitors will come onto the track for autograph night. Spectator drags will be held in addition to the preliminary and feature action for the regular divisions.
Pit gates will open at 3:00, hotlaps start at 3:30, qualifying is at 5:00, and racing will take the green at 6:30. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 62+, $8 for kids 6-15, and children 5 and under are free. Pit admission is $25 for members and $30 for non-members.
