Ohio's Fun Place to Race!!

 Another great night of weather greeted race fans who arrived to check out the third night of the racing season at Midvale Speedway. All five of the regular divisions were in action as well as spectator drags. Heats, pursuits, and features were run for the weekly competitors.
Outside row one starter, Ed Middaugh, beat, polesitter, Randy Smith back to the line for the completion of lap one in the McIntosh Oil Company Late Models. Middaugh, who has been strong in his return to racing this season, led the first six laps before Mark Willison took over after a restart. The Minerva, Ohio driver's main challenger stepped forward on the eleventh lap, by way of Bryant Smith. Not only was he right there, division point leader, Rick Sibila, came toward the front with his presence as well. Sibila challenging Smith actually helped Willison pull away as the battle ensued behind him. Down the stretch, Willison continued to turn extremely consistent laps to go on to the victory. Following the Graphics By Dave/Willison Racing #18 were Smith, Sibila, Middaugh, and Jonathan Reitter. Bubba Smith, Ron Jaberg, Jr., Randy Smith, Larry Baker, and Derek Grewell were top ten finishers. Bryant Smith and Randy Smith won the heats, while Middaugh claimed the pursuit win. Sibila set fast time.
Justin Courtney held off a strong and competitive field of Summit Racing Economy Modifieds for the first few laps of the 25 scheduled. Moving quickly to the front and taking the lead from him was Alex Rosenberry. Rosenberry, looking for his second career feature win, was running strong out front, building up a sizable lead before a caution lined Dave Dobbins up alongside. Before the green dropped on the restart, Rosenberry got a little bit ahead of Dobbins, so he slowed to allow the outside row one car to pull back alongside. When he did, he lost his momentum and Dobbins shot into the lead. A lap or so later, Rosenberry made a run to the inside coming off of turn two and slid sideways, spinning on the backstretch. Dobbins during the middle to late stage of the race, was able to hold off fellow challengers over the period of a few restarts before Randy Smart drove underneath him with six laps to go. Smart held off Dobbins a lap later on a double file restart and drove on to his second win of the season. Following the Massillon Machine/Dr. Kurt Garren #17 were Kevin McClintock who had a strong second place run, Dobbins who hung on to third, Adam Stewart who rallied nicely for fourth and Alex Rosenberry who also came from the back from an early spin. Courtney, Matthew Mills, Joe Ujcich, Greg Hole, and Bill Burkholder were top ten finishers. Dobbins and Greg Hole were heat winners, while Courtney won the pursuit. Smart set fast time.
Don Boron, Jr. led the first two laps in the Midvale Speedway Pure Stock feature before veteran racer, Joe Linard took over. For the first half of the event, Linard's closest challenger was Boron, but at the halfway mark, Bill Aubihl, last week's winner moved into second to look for back-to-back trips to victory lane. Down the stretch, Linard fended off any and all challenges and raced to the stripe in first. Following the Absolute Machine Tools/Buckey Mowing #2 were Aubihl, Boron, Joe Oliver, and Teddy Oliver. Others in the top ten were Vince Martin, T.J. Barker, Bob Passwaters, Jr., Josh Anders, and George Bowers. Linard and Anders won the heats, while Aubihl claimed the pursuit victory. Mike Martin set fast time.
Cliff Cox set fast time and won the heat and pursuit in the Compact division. For the feature, Cox put John McNutt behind the wheel as well as some pressure to continue the domination. It took McNutt all of one lap to find himself out front. Down the stretch of the 12-lap event, McNutt pulled out to a sizable lead to claim his first feature win of the year. Braden Swaney had a strong second place effort, while Ryan Shreffler, Donnie Leggett, and Dan Buckey completed the top five.
The small oval, Stock Compact division had Kohlten Bryan out front for the first two laps. However, just as everyone saw the first two weeks, Blaine Salsberry is the driver to beat. The Uhrichsville, Ohio competitor drove to the outside lane and to the front of the pack to claim his third win in just as many tries. Bryan, Allen Clark, Gary Murray, and Dave Conrad were top five finishers. Bryan won the heat, while Salsberry set fast time and won the pursuit.
The page is now turned to the extremely exciting night of action scheduled for this Saturday, May 26. On tap will be 50 lap features for Late Models and Modifieds and a skid plate race for front wheel drive cars with metal plates instead of rear tires. Pure Stocks and the two Compact divisions will also race.
Pit gates will open at 3:00, hotlaps at 3:30, qualifying at 5:00, and racing will start at 6:30. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors 62+, $10 for kids 6-15, and children 5 and under are free. Pit admission is $25 for members and $30 for non-members.
