4-18-12 UPDATE: Impressive Renovations To Unveil At Midvale Speedway Opener This Saturday

The 2012 racing season at Midvale Speedway is set to begin this coming Saturday, April 21. The five division show will be racing at the ever improving facility, as another phase of reconstruction has taken place in the offseason.

Two years ago, track owners Randy and Sue Smith decided it was time for an overhaul of the pit area for drivers and teams. New pit pads for competitors, catch fence from turn two to turn three, new grandstand seating with concrete walkways, and the asphalt driveways were all put in place for the 2011 season.

Concentration on improvements turned to the fans for 2012. Starting last fall, the grandstand seating in turn four was taken away and concrete was poured for the walkways and seating areas. The rest of the old catch fence was removed and replaced with brand new poles and fencing. The frontstretch wall from turn four to turn one was moved back 5 feet to allow additional room for passing on a once tight straightaway. Once the weather turned this spring, work picked back up at the track as the grandstand seating was put into place, more concrete was poured to complete a walkway from the pits to the stands. Among other improvements this spring are brand new speakers for the grandstand sound system.

While the improvements will continue for the next few years to make the facility a true showplace, it already is drastically different than it was just a few years ago.

Adding to the excitement of the new season was this past Sunday's test and tune turnout. In all, over 50 competitors shook down their rides for 2012. To the delight of many, 15 Economy Modifieds were pitside with several more expected for the first race of the season. A solid field of 13 Late Models, plus decent fields of Pure Stocks and Compacts were there as well.

Late Models, Economy Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Compacts, and Stock Compacts will all race this coming Saturday for double points. Pits will open at 2:00, with grandstands and practice at 3:00, group qualifying at 5:15, and racing action at 6:30.

Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 62+, $8 for kids 6-15, and children 5 and under are free. Pit admission is $25 for members and $30 for non-members.
