Ohio's Fun Place to Race!!
2026 Race Season
First Time Winners In Top Divisions
July 16, 2011
First Time Winners In Top DivisionsIt was a full schedule of racing entertainment this past Saturday, July 16 at Midvale Speedway. In addition to heats and features for the regular five divisions, the fan favorite pursuit races returned. At intermission, spectators were treated to Parking Lot Drags and a couple of races from the Midvale Karting Series. In total, saw 234 laps of green flag racing, not counting the Spectator Drags.

The main event of the night was the McIntosh Oil Company Late Model feature. After qualifying, top time setter Tom Stankiewicz rolled three dice for a small invert of six. That put Rick Sibila and Emerson Huffman on the front row for the 25-lap grind. When the green waved, it was Sibila setting the early pace, while Huffman fell deep into the field with handling issues. Moving into the second spot was Bob Schneider, Jr. and following him into third was second fast qualifier, Rich Rohrer. The first half of the race ran fast, as the first caution didn't fly until lap 13 for Huffman and Bryant Smith. With the double file restart placing Schneider on the outside lane, many thought he would fall back a few spots in a groove that has been treacherous the last couple of weeks. When the green waved, though, the Barnhill, Ohio driver was able to drop back into line right behind Sibila as the first three competitors ran nose to tail. Two more cautions would wave around the halfway point, but the final 13 laps went caution free in a clean race. As the race wound down, Sibila picked up a convincing victory, while Schneider, Rohrer, and Bubba Smith followed each other closely for top four finishes. Rich Dessecker held off top qualifier, Tom Stankiewicz for the fifth spot, while Mark Willison, Ron Jaberg, Jr., Bryant Smith, and Huffman completed the top ten. For the #63 Racecar, it was Sibila's first Late Model win at Midvale. In a good night for the family, Rick's brother Bob, Jr. picked up the Late Model win at Columbus Motor Speedway. Dessecker won the fast heat, while Bryant Smith won the second heat and pursuit.

It turned out to be a night for small inverts, as Summit Racing Economy Modified top qualifier Scott Archer rolled a "2" total on his two dice. That put him on the outside pole, while second fast qualifier, Mark Willison, Jr. started P1. Ironically, it was those two drivers that battled it out a few weeks ago for a feature win. In that race, Willison led many of the laps before Archer got around him on a late race restart. On this night, Willison would try to come out ahead. As the green dropped, it was the second generation driver going into the top spot. As Archer hounded Willison up front, he got a little too hard into turn three making slight contact with the rear bumper of the leader. Willison's car spun and Archer had to restart at the tail. When the race resumed, it was point leader, Dave Dobbins' turn at the battle. Dobbins, though, slid back in the outside groove and lost the second spot to Alex Rosenberry. Over the next few laps, it was Rosenberry putting a solid challenge at the lead. His great run came to an end a few laps later, though, as his car started overheating and that relegated him to the pits. Over the final twelve circuits, Willison protected his racing groove and kept Dobbins at bay. As the checkered waved, it was the Graphics By Dave #98 of Mark Willison, Jr. claiming his first career Modified win. Dobbins, Tom Garbrandt, Archer, and Kevin McClintock were top five finishers. Adam Stewart, Joe Ujcich, Doug Higgins, Lee McCreery, and Alex Rosenberry were in the top ten. McClintock and Stewart won the heats, while Rosenberry won the pursuit.

Last week, the Midvale Speedway Pure Stock feature had two major incidents to start the race that claimed over half of the field. To much surprise, a large number of the cars returned this week after a lot of time and money was spent to repair them. This week's race had way more cautions than even a week ago. Fortunately this time, the damage to cars wasn't nearly as severe. It was a race that saw Justin Courtney lead through the numerous cautions and restarts during the first half of the race. In fact, Bill Aubihl took the lead from him a few times, only to have cautions erase the pass as a full lap wasn't completed. Finally, the field was able to make it past lap eight and Aubihl did race out front. The next eight circuits went caution free. The race came to an end four laps early, as caution on lap 16 ended the race because of a time limit. For the Classic Creations/Jim's Service #31, it was feature win number three this season. Following, the Dover, Ohio driver were Justin Courtney, Brian Minard, Mike Martin, and Bill Shimko. Others in the top ten were Corey Evey, Bob Passwaters, Jr., Bob Passwaters, Sr., Luther Chambers, and Don Boron, Jr. Aubihl and Evey won the heats, while Boron won the pursuit. Aubihl was also top qualifier.

The Outlaw Compact 15-lap feature saw four different leaders on the first five laps. Polesitter Jason Shaw, a former Compact track champion, was the leader on lap one. Mike Swaney took over for the second lap, while Larry Ennis raced out front on lap three. The final lead change took place on lap five, as top qualifier, Kyle Grove continued his domination and rocketed into the lead. Behind him, plenty of shuffling took place as Tye Kelly, Rusty rouse, Wes Ennis and Jesse Page were racing for top five positions. As the checkered waved on the caution free race, the J.D. Byrider/Greg's Recovery #3 was followed by Ennis, who finished second in every race, Swaney, Wes Ennis, and Page. Kelly, Rouse, Albright, and Shaw also made it to the finish. For Grove it was a clean sweep as he set fast time and won the heat, pursuit, and the feature. Swaney won the second heat.

Youngster Kohlten Bryan led lap one in a new car during the Stock Compact feature but veteran Paul Stull took over on the second pace. Lap-after-lap, Stull led Braden Swaney, but was being pushed ever so close to his breakout time. Eventually, Stull did go under his breakout for a second time and was given a speeding ticket, sending him pitside. That gave the lead to Swaney and the 14-year old driver went on to pick up his fifth feature win of the season. The CJ's Drive Thru/P&R Marine #27 extended his point lead with the victory. Tim Frederick finished second in Dan Buckey's car, while Allen Clark, Jeffrey Orr, and Ryan Shreffler were top five finishers. Kohlten Bryan, Don Boron, Sr., Billy Weaver, Gary Murray, and Stull claimed top tens. Clark and Bryan won the heats, while Stull won the pursuit. Frederick set fast time.

Jerrod Martin won the spectator drag event, while Derek Fry won the Midvale Karting Series feature.
