2026 Race Season
Only One Repeat Winner During Two Nights
May 21, 2011
Only One Repeat Winner During Two NightsThe first two weeks have exceeded expectations at Midvale Speedway. Despite a number of early season rainouts, track officials are thrilled with the turnout of fans and cars during the early part of the 2011 season. The car count improved in each of the six divisions for the second night of racing, this past Saturday, May 21 and the crowd was better than most in 2010. All were treated to another real good night of entertainment.

16 McIntosh Oil Company Late Models took the green in the 25-lap feature event. Ron Kirkatrick and Jonathan Reitter, each making their first start of the season, brought the field in to the green. Reitter, via the outside lane, raced into the early lead. The Weirton, WV driver led the first five circuits before track officials were forced to send him pitside with fairly heavy smoke trailing from the car. That handed the lead to Emerson Huffman. The third year driver led the next five laps before his car developed a heavy push. The third leader of the race was Bryant Smith. The second generation racer led the next eight laps before a yellow flag negated his advantage. On the double file restart, Smith's older brother Bubba moved to the outside, and when the green dropped, used the high lane to dart into the lead position. Another yellow or two slowed the pace but Bubba Smith would take the lead on each ensuing restart. A close call for the leader came on the final lap when Bryant ruffled his feathers with a little tap coming off of turn two. Both continued to the checkered for the one-two finish. At the stripe, the Smith's Auto Sales/Finish Line Motors #12 of Bubba Smith was followed by Bryant Smith, Rich Marcum, who had another solid run, Bob Schneider, Jr. who backed up his first career top time with a top five, and Rick Sibila who looked good in his first appearance of the season. The other top ten finishers were Ron Jaberg, Jr., Rich Dessecker, Brad Channell, Gene Molnar, Jr., and Emerson Huffman. Huffman and Kirkpatrick won the heats.

The Summit Racing Economy Modifieds had 13 cars on hand for the second night of the season. The new division has had a solid turnout the first two weeks and there are more cars on the way. The affordable crate engines have also made for exciting, tight, and highly competitive racing. The invert of nine, put Mike Martin and Joe Ujcich on the front row for the 20-lap feature. Martin inched into the lead on the green, while Tom Garbrandt was making some bold moves to battle at the completion of the first lap. As the duo worked into turn one, Garbrandt, thinking he had cleared Martin, came down the track just slightly and contact was made. The veteran spun and Adam Stewart came slamming into the front end of his #30 racecar. Both drivers were done for the night. Back to racing, Scott Archer raced into the top spot. At this point, everyone knew that the veteran driver was going to be tough to beat. Lap-after-lap, Archer led a pack of six cars that were racing for position, with Archer protecting the bottom. Teammates Alex Rosenberry and Ryan Tedesco ran side-by-side for a number of laps, before the veteran Tedesco was able to work around the youngster for second. At the finish, it was Canton, Ohio's Scott Archer in the Arch-a-Motive/Orwick's Tree Service #28 followed by Tedesco, Randy Smart who inched ahead of Rosenberry at the stripe for third and Dave Dobbins fifth. The other top ten finishers were Kevin McClintock, Doug Higgins, Mark Willison, Jr., Mike Martin, and Joe Ujcich. Rosenberry and Archer won the heats, while Smart set quick time.

In the Midvale Speedway Pure Stock feature, opening night winner Corey Evey and Brian Minard started up front. Evey took the lead at the green, while top qualifier Teddy Oliver had moved into second by lap two. One lap later, Oliver raced into the top spot and set sail in front of the field. The race would go 20-laps straight without a caution and Oliver claimed the lopsided win in his PhilChalmers.com/John Wissman Motorsports #49. Evey backed up a heat win with a second place finish, while Vince Martin crashed his car coming to the stripe to finish third. Todd Miller was fourth and Brian Minard claimed fifth. The rest of the top ten were TJ Barker, Don Boron, Jr., Jesse Patterson, Luther Chambers, and Rocky Epps. Evey and Chambers were the heat winners, while Oliver claimed fast time.

Blaine Salsberry and Jeffrey Orr started on the front row for the 20-lap Outlaw Compact feature. Salsberry got shuffled high on the first lap, slapped the wall, came down the banking and slammed into the door of Bryce Allensworth's #11. Both were done for the night. Another crash happened soon after the race was restarted as contact took place between the top two. Tom Barrett was leading on lap five when Rich Dunlap made some slight contact going into turn one. Barrett spun, and looked to be out of danger until Ryan Shreffler exited turn two and slammed into the nose of the leader's car. Both were finished for the evening. That gave the lead to John McNutt. Again, just like week one, it turned out to be a battle between McNutt and Kyle Grove for the win. Grove, snuck underneath McNutt on lap eleven to get the lead and looked destined for victory. However, with about five to go, Grove started to slow and moments later, his right front wheel popped off. McNutt reclaimed the lead and would become the only repeat winner from opening night. Following the Dennison Yard/Lee's Famous Recipe #35 were Mike Swaney with his best career feature finish, Jake Albright, Jesse Page, and Jimmy Orr. Others in the top ten were Jeffrey Orr, Tye Kelly, Rich Dunlap, Grove, and Justin Renicker. McNutt and Jeffrey Orr won the heats, while Grove set fast time.

In the new Stock Compact division for 2011, 14-year old Braden Swaney started a row or two deep into the field, but was in the lead by the completion of the first lap. For the final 14 circuits, the rookie competitor made no mistakes and held on for his first career feature victory. Following the P&R Marine/CJ's Drive Thru #27 were Colton Cottis, Danny Crislip, Allen Andrews, and Brad McClain. Crislip and Gary Murray won the heat races, while Crislip set fast time.

Jason Morgan made his 2011 debut and picked up the Figure 8 feature win in dominating style. Morgan was followed in the distance by Jeffrey Orr, Don Boron, Sr., and Bryant Smith.

Racing action will continue this coming Saturday, May 28 with the Memorial Day Weekend shootout. The Late Models and Economy Modifieds will each have 50-lap feature events paying extra money. Pure Stocks, Outlaw Compacts, and Stock Compacts will also race.

Admission prices will remain unchanged at $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 62+, $8 for kids 6-15, and children 5 and under are free. Pit admission is $25 for members and $30 for non-members.

Pit gates will open at 2:00, hotlaps and grandstands at 3:00, qualifying at 4:45, and racing action will begin at 6:30.
