Monday, April 20th Ohio's Fun Place to Race!! 2026 Race Season Miller , McClintock, Oliver, & Grewell Top Winners August 22, 2009 McDonald’s presented another action packed night of racing at Midvale Speedway this past Saturday, August 22. The five regular divisions were there, racing for important points with only a few nights remaining on the 2009 schedule. In the McIntosh Oil Company Late Model division, Mike Miller and Bubba Smith entered the night tied for the point lead. In qualifying, Smith moved a few points ahead with a better qualifying effort. Miller bounced back by winning the fast heat, while Smith was a few spots behind. Feature time came with Bob Schneider, Jr. starting on the pole with Miller alongside. Smith, due to his better time trial effort, started in the fifth position. With the green out, Schneider edged ahead as Miller dropped back a little in the outside lane. However, a yellow came out for a spin in turn four, resulting in a complete restart. This time, Miller, knowing he needed to get to the bottom, moved ahead entering turn one and slammed the door on Schneider by turn two. Behind him, drivers were in a ferocious battle trying to clear Schneider, who was glued to the bottom. Doug McMillen, after a great qualifying lap, shot by the polesitter as well to take second. As the laps wore down, Miller and McMillen were joined by Bubba Smith, who was able to work around John Sluka and Blake Mackey. Smith took a couple of looks high and low on McMillen but never made the move stick. Coming to the finish, the A-1 Auto/Bob’s Auto Sales #53 was followed by McMillen, Smith, Todd Ripley, and Schneider. Mackey, Sluka, Ron Jaberg, Jr., Kenny Cantrell, and George Riddle were top ten finishers. Miller, Cantrell, and Bob Eichel were heat winners, while Bryant Smith set fast time before his engine expired. Miller holds a single digit point advantage on Smith entering the final two point nights for Late Models. Randy Smart ran the highside of Nick Grubbs during the early laps of the Tusco Net Sport Stock feature. The lead duo ran that way for several laps before Grubbs car started pushing high coming off of the turns. Exiting turn two on lap nine, Grubbs and Smart slid way up the track and top qualifier Kevin McClintock took advantage, filling the bottom lane with his Federated Auto Parts/Blick Tool & Die #38. Smart then dropped to the inside and moved into the second spot. The lead pair pulled to a big advantage on the rest of the field. Dover, Ohio driver Kevin McClintock was followed by Smart, Grubbs, Jerry McNealy, and Kevin Locker. Gary Hoopingarner moved into the top five when Grubbs was disqualified for a weight infraction during post race. McClintock and Burkholder were heat race winners. Larry Smith led the early laps of the 20-lap Integrity Auto/Conrad Insurance Pure Stock feature. Teddy Oliver, who made a late decision to attend the night’s racing, missed qualifying and had to start toward the tail. It didn’t take him long, though, to make his way into second and by lap five, Oliver raced into the top position, relegating Smith to the second spot. Tad Grove, the night’s fastest qualifier, raced into the outside lane and around Smith for second. Coming to the checkered, the John Wissman Investments/Stewart Flooring #49 was followed by Grove, Smith, Todd Miller, and Pat Moore. Brian Minard moved into the top five when Smith’s run was disallowed due to a wheelbase requirement. Bob Passwaters, Sr. was the official winner of the heat race. Derek Grewell took the early lead in the Parkway Auto Group Compact fast feature and never looked back, claiming yet another win this season. Point leader Don Rufener, Jr. took over second but a broken wheel took his chances for victory away. Later it was Wes Ennis and Kyle Rector that took turns running second but in the end, Grewell was the top finisher. Following the Hess Motorsports #95 were Rector, Ennis, John McNutt, and Johnny Campbell. Ennis had his run disallowed due to unapproved alterations to the suspension. Brad Henry then claimed a top five finish. In the second Compact feature, Ron Myers led the first four laps before Cliff Cox took over out front. Cox, looking to find victory lane after a couple of weeks away, cruised to victory in his newly setup racer. Russell Grandison finished second, while Don Rufener, III, Tammy Rufener, and Ron Myers were top five finishers. The final Compact feature had Dan Konovsek and Rich Dunlap racing side-by-side for the lead well ahead of the rest of the pack. Dunlap had mechanical problems earlier in the night so he drove Lennie Orr's figure eight car in the feature. All went well until both cars broke out of their qualifying times, handing the lead to Ashlee Page on lap eleven. Page went on to claim her second feature victory of the season. Pat Carnes, Blaine Salsbury, Paul Stull, and Richard Duvall were top five finishers. In the last race of the night, Derek Grewell continued his mastery of the Figure 8 division. This year's point leader had won a number of races entering the night's event, started deep in the field, and made his way to the front. Grewell was able to pass Lennie Orr to claim the top spot. Joe Konovsek, Jason Grewell, and Don Rufener, Jr. were top five finishers. A scary crash took place at the intersection near the halfway point as Kyle Grewell's car was slammed in the driver door by Konovsek's #133. The impact pushed the cage over far enough to knock off the passenger door. The driver was banged up but for the most part, alright. Racing will continue this coming Saturday, August 29, as the final School Bus Figure 8 of 2009 will be held. Several busses are entered including the former Canton South Band Bus, which will be driven by Teddy Oliver. The band is scheduled to be there to perform as well. Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, Compacts, and Legends will race. Pit gates open at 2, hotlaps at 3:00, qualifying at 4:45, and racing will begin at 6:30. Admission is $13 for adults and seniors and $8 for kids 6-15. Children five and under are free. More info may be found at midvalespeedway.com.
