Racing for one of Midvale Speedway's best turnout of cars was foiled early Saturday night by Mother Nature's wrath. Shortly after the completion of the night's fourth race, rain moved into the area. Officials decided to wait out the long shower and attempt to dry the track.
Thanks to many drivers and track crew members, the track was back to race conditions and the Compact fast feature was called onto the speedway. Just as the field of competitors were pacing the oval waiting for the green, a torrential downpour put the nail in the coffin on Saturday night's program.
It was unfortunate for the fans that wanted to see some great racing action. The Tusco Net Sport Stock field saw its best car count of the season with 13, while the Integrity Auto/Conrad Insurance Pure Stock saws its high mark with 16. The McIntosh Oil Late Models and Parkway Auto Group Compacts had solid car counts as well.
In the races that were completed, Rich Marcum won the fast dash in the Late Model class, while Blake Mackey won the first heat and Bob Schneider, Jr. took the second heat. Nick Grubbs won the fast dash in the Sport Stock division while Chris Miller was credited with a win in the rain shortened heat race. The top qualifiers were Bubba Smith, Kevin McClintock, Tad Grove, and Kyle Rector.
Pit bands and grandstand tickets are good for the August 8 or August 15 programs for free admission. You must bring your ticket or wristband to the track. If it is lost, so is the money you spent to buy it.
Racing will continue on August 8th with the Faster Pastor race plus Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, Compacts, and Figure 8's. Pits will open at 2:00, hotlaps are at 3:00, qualifying begins at 4:45, and racing takes the green at 6:30.
Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 62+, $6 for kids 6-15, and children 5 and under are free. Pit admission is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. More information on upcoming events may be found at midvalespeedway.com.
