Ohio's Fun Place to Race!!

A large late arriving crowd witnessed an exciting night of racing, including the first of two School Bus Figure 8 races this season. Legends, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts were also on the docket, presented by the Texas Roadhouse of New Philadelphia.
Fans were treated to another thrilling School Bus Figure 8 race. Seven busses took the green, with Cody Shuss moving into the lead early. Shuss was not expected to be a challenger, as a crack in the engine block was found earlier in the afternoon. In fact, since saving the motor was not an option, crew members bypassed the radiator and removed it to save it for a future race. Shuss held on lap-after-lap, outlasting four other busses that fell out before him. When Shuss's engine did shush, the bus race was left with two final competitors, Joe Fewkes, the leader, and Bryant Smith, on the tail end of the lead lap. Fewkes held on the for the win, while Smith, Shuss, Bubba Smith, and Teddy Oliver were top five finishers. Luther Chambers and Neil Rolli fell out early.
The Tusco Net Sport Stock 20-lap feature had Jerry McNealy out front early. Kevin Locker raced by to lead lap number five. Randy Smart, the top qualifier, worked hard in the outside lane to get by Locker. At one point, Smart looked like he had the run, but Locker slid up the track and made contact with the left side. They continued to race for a few laps before Smart's left front tire went flat under a lap eight caution. Locker led until lap eleven, when the engine let go heading into turn one. That gave the lead to Kevin McClintock, driving a back-up car. McClintock, though, lost the lead on the restart, as Ron Dague drove underneath him exiting turn two. Dague led comfortably to the finish, claiming the win in his Tolloti Pipe/Barnhill Storage #75. McClintock, Bill Aubihl, McNealy, and Chris Miller were top five finishers. Locker won the dash, while Dague took the heat win.
The Integrity Auto/Conrad Insurance Pure Stocks were led by polesitter Ronald Bunton early on. Brian Minard, Teddy Oliver, and Tad Grove were heading to the front and moved by Bob Passwaters, Sr. by lap six to start their challenge. However, the battle between them was turning red hot. Minard ran Grove up the banking a couple of times in the corners. A frustrated Grove returned contact on the front stretch, sending Minard's car head on into the wall. Minard retired with severe damage, while Grove received the black flag. Phil Bunton, Jr. became the new runner-up in the battle with his brother Ronald. The last ten laps would not be easy for the leader, as Bunton, Jr. applied the bumper a couple of times. Coming to the finish, Ronald Bunton claimed the victory, while Phil Bunton, Jr., Todd Miller, Passwaters, Sr., and Keith Anderson were in the top five. The rest of the top ten were Pat Moore, Passwaters, Jr., Isaac Ferrebee, Luther Chambers, and Minard. Teddy Oliver won the dash, while Miller and Passwaters, Sr. were heat winners. Tad Grove set fast time.
Adam Mishler, via the outside lane, led the Parkway Auto Group fast Compact feature. Under a lap six caution, second place competitor Wes Ennis and third place runner Derek Grewell made inadvertent contact while keeping their tires clean. It knocked the rear bumper off of Ennis's car and he was forced pitside. Grewell moved into second and started applying pressure to Mishler. The leader had earlier gone under his time on a lap, and with Grewell forcing him to pick it up, Mishler again broke out on lap eleven, ending his feature win chances. Grewell led the remaining laps and claimed yet another victory this season. Johnny Campbell, Don Rufener, Jr., Kelly McNutt, and Rich Hess were top five finishers. Others in the top ten were John McNutt, Kyle Grove, Brad Henry, Kyle Rector, and Tammy Rufener.
The second Compact feature had Don Rufener, III racing quickly to the front from mid-pack. Billy Nicholas also put together a solid run and closed in the latter stages. Rufener, though, claimed his second feature win in his rookie season, while Nicholas, Tim Frederick, Neil Rolli, and Pat Carnes finished in the top five. Jake Albright, Ashlee Page, Todd Walker, Charles Storesina, and Dane Martin were in the top ten.
Compact heat wins were claimed by Don Rufener, Jr., Adam Mishler, Don Rufener, III, and Jake Albright. Kelly McNutt won the dash and Kyle Grove set fast time.
Dennis Knox claimed the Legend feature win over Randy Burns, Jake Francis, Brandon Huff, and Andy Yoder. Knox also won the heat.
The 2009 Mid-Season Championships will be held this coming Saturday, June 27. Double points and large trophies will be claimed by those in the Late Model, Sport Stock, Pure Stocks, Compact, and Figure 8 divisions.
Pit gates open at 2, hotlaps at 3, qualifying at 4:45, and racing at 6:30. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 62+, $6 for kids 6-15, and children five and under are free. Pit admission will be $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
