Awards Handed Out At 2008 Banquet

<center>Awards Handed Out At 2008 Banquet</center>A couple of hundred people gathered at the New Philadelphia Elks to celebrate the past season and receive awards at the Midvale Speedway 2008 banquet. The event was held this past Saturday, January 10.

Mike Miller of Clinton, Ohio took home the top championship, as he finished atop the 2008 McIntosh Oil Late Model standings. The veteran driver was joined by Kevin McClintock (Tusco Net Sport Stocks), Tory Gibbs (Pure Stocks), and Don Rufener, Jr. (Parkway Suzuki Compacts & Figure 8's) as other headliners.

Special awards were also announced. In the Late Model class, Rich Marcum was most improved, Bryant Smith claimed the rookie of the year title, sportsman of the year was Doug McMillen, Mark Willison was hard luck driver, Bubba Smith had the best appearing car, Mike Miller had the crew of the year, and Ryan Tedesco was the most popular driver.

The Sport Stock special award winners were Jerry McNealy as most improved, Blake Bitticker was rookie of the year, Chris Miller sportsman of the year, Chris Kail hard luck driver, Randy Smart had the best apparing car, outstanding pit crew went to Kevin McClintock, and Ron Dague was most popular.

The Pure Stock class had Luther Chambers claiming the most improved title, with Tad Grove taking ROY trophy, Bob Passwaters, Sr. sportsman of the year, Keith Anderson hard luck driver, Pat Moore best appearing car, Oliver racing claimed best pit crew award, and Rich Schweitzer was most popular.

Rounding things out were the Parkway Suzuki Compacts. Rich Dunlap was this year's most improved, Rich Hess was rookie of the year, Don Rufener, Jr. took the sportsman of the year and pit crew trophies, Jake Albright for hard luck driver, Max McCartney best appearing, and A.J. Diano took the most popular driver award.

Other awards given were track record plaques for Ron Dague and Tad Grove, a rollover trophy for Ryan Tedesco, and the young gun award to Jeffrey Orr.

The 2009 division rules have been released and are now available online at midvalespeedway.com. Other information including the 2009 schedule will be posted in the very near future.

Rule Amendments For 2009

Late Models
No aluminum blocks
SB2 motors now allowed
Muffler rule will be enforced this season

Sport Stocks
Wheelbase will be measured from wheel to wheel on both sides
Muffler rule will be enforced this season

Pure Stocks
Cage may be made of 1 ½” tubing, but 1 ¾” tubing is recommended
Stock brake systems only
No rear disc brakes
Stock frame but may be repaired from differential to rear
Any flat tappet cam okay. No roller cams.
Roller rockers okay
Pulleys may be aluminum

Compacts & Figure 8’s
Cage may be made of 1 ½” tubing, but 1 ¾” tubing is recommended
