2026 Race Season
Tedesco, McClintock, Schweitzer, & McNutt Win
August 16, 2008

Tedesco, McClintock, Schweitzer, & McNutt Win
Another beautiful weather evening greeted fans and racers alike, as competitors put on an exciting show this past Saturday, August 16, at Midvale Speedway. Fields continued to be extra strong in the Late Model and Compact divisions, while the Sport Stocks and Pure Stocks were also in action. A fan favorite, spectator drags were held at intermission.

The first feature of the night was the McIntosh Oil Company Late Model 25 lapper. Todd Ripley and John Sluka brought the 22-car field in for the green, as three drivers did not make the race after the last chance event. Ripley advanced into the lead at the drop of the green, while Sluka settled into second. Fourth place starter, Mike Miller, instantly tried the outside lane. For a while, it looked as though that Miller’s run would pay off with a feature victory. However, after many laps running the second lane, Miller’s ride started to fade. After leading lap 20, Miller slid back slightly and that opened the door for top qualifier Ryan Tedesco. Tedesco had won the previous two feature events, but was boxed in for the first 20 laps of this feature. With two to go, Tedesco got a run on Ripley in the outside lane, made it stick, and claimed his fourth feature win of the season. Ripley, Miller, Sluka, and Smith followed the Marathon Manufacturing #70 across the stripe but the cars of Ripley and Sluka were disqualified due to a cubic inch limit. Mark Willison and Greg Beule were then placed in the top five. The rest of the top ten in one of the best features of the season were Doug McMillen, Rick Sibila, Bob Schneider, Jr., Tom Garbrandt, and Bryant Smith. Miller won the dash, McMillen, Darrel Dexter, and Gene Molnar, Jr. the heats, and Dexter the last chance.

After qualifying in the Pure Stock division, fast timer Tory Gibbs rolled a very small “2” to put himself on the outside of row number one for the 20-lap feature. Many considered him the favorite, as his #10 has been extremely quick the last several nights while picking up five feature wins this season. Gibbs tried hard in the high lane to displace second fast qualifier Rich Schweitzer from the lead position. Schweitzer, though, proved unflappable as the veteran continued to run a consistent lane just quickly enough to hold off the fast qualifier. As the checkered waved, Schweitzer picked up his second feature win of the season, while Gibbs, Lee McCreery, Todd Miller, and Bob Passwaters, Sr. completed the top five. Other top ten finishers were Adam Stewart, Joe Oliver, Teddy Oliver, Phil Bunton, Jr., and Ronald Bunton. Schweitzer won the dash, while Miller claimed the heat.

Outside polesitter Nick Grubbs led the first lap of the Tusco Net Sport Stock feature before fourth place qualifier Kevin McClintock moved by on the inside. McClintock dashed his way into a decent lead early on, as Randy Smart and Ron Dague battled for second. On lap eleven, Dague, Smart, and Grubbs were involved in a mishap in turn one, sending the three spinning. After the restart, McClintock’s car started to show some brake problems, as his #38 was pushing high off of the turns. Smart closed to the rear bumper and was preparing to setup the leader for a pass. However, entering turn three with two to go, Smart and McClintock collided sending the leader spinning. Smart admitted fault and went to the tail, while McClintock was able to hang on for his fourth feature victory. Following the Zoar Air Design & Embroidery/Glass Lumber Company #38 were Scott Archer, Dague, Grubbs, and Smart. The rest of the top ten were Chris Miller, Blake Bitticker, Rich Dessecker, Jerry McNealy, and Joe Fewkes. McClintock won the dash, while Grubbs won the heat. Dague set fast time in qualifying.

The Parkway Suzuki Compact fast feature had polesitter John McNutt in the lead early with challenges coming from Max McCartney for the first five laps and Tim Westerfield, Jr. for the next several. Eventually, Rich Dunlap moved his way from deep in the field to battle the final two circuits. Dunlap dropped to the lowside coming off of turn two on the final lap and drew alongside on the backstretch. Going into turn three, McNutt knew his only chance was to close the door and that he did. McNutt and Dunlap rubbed some paint and McNutt claimed his fourth feature victory of the season. Dunlap, Don Rufener, Jr., A.J. Diano, and Westerfield finished off the top five. Kelly McNutt, McCartney, Jay Hunt, Adam Mishler, and Johnny Campbell were top ten finishers.

The Compacts then went back-to-back with good feature action. Polesitter Tom Barrett raced into the lead for the first three laps, but was quickly timed under his breakout, eliminating him from action. The lead was then in the hands of second year racer Jeffrey Orr. Orr stayed along the bottom as rookie driver Kyle Grove flew to the highside. Grove and Orr raced the complete second half of the race in a side-by-side battle with Grove leading most of the laps. On the final lap, though, Orr picked it up a notch, edging ahead in three and four. Coming off of four and to the line the duo hit a couple of times, each trying to win their first feature. At the stripe, it was Jeffrey Orr victorious over Grove, Kyle Rector, Earl Scranton, and Jesse Page. Other top ten finishers were Jason Grewell, Bob Passwaters, Jr., Tammy Rufener, Rich Hess, and Billy Nicholas.

Perk Pyle held onto the early lead in the third Compact feature. Chasity Crawford took the spot away on lap five and led for a few more circuits before breaking out of her qualifying time. That gave the lead to Jason Anthony. Anthony, coming from the back of the pack, claimed the impressive victory, while Isaac Ferrebee, Dan Konovsek, Justin Vanfossen, and Pat Carnes took top fives. Others in the top ten were Tim Frederick, Jason Ray, Taylor Moore, Perk Pyle, and Joe Slentz.

Compact preliminary wins were taken by Dunlap, McCartney, Rector, Grewell, and Carnes. Kelly McNutt set fast time.

Eric Singhaus led a major portion of the Karting Series Champ Kart race. Coming to the white flag, A.J. Yoder passed him on the inside lane. Singhaus dove back under in turn two, but the race hadn’t ended yet when Yoder took possession of the lead on the lowside coming off of turn four to the checkered. Yoder was followed by Singhaus, Turner, Steven Berling, Jamie Gibbs, and Gary Shumaker.

Charles Storesina claimed an exciting Spectator Drag victory. It was the first time for the drags in 2008 due to weather issues, and the event did not disappoint. Fans even saw the demise of a right front fender on a 2003 Toyota Celica. Though this was supposed to be the final Spectator Drag event of the season, officials have just announced that the Spectator Drags will now be held on September 6th and October 4th.

Racing will continue this coming Saturday, August 23rd with the return of the front wheel drive Figure 8’s. Eleven drivers took the green in the last Figure 8 race two weeks ago. Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts will also be on the card along with Racecar Bingo with fans winning prizes.

Qualifying will start at 4:30 with racing at 6:30. Admission prices remain regular.
