Ohio's Fun Place to Race!!
2026 Race Season
Mid-Season Trophies Claimed At Midvale
July 12, 2008
Double points and Mid-Season Championship trophies were up for grabs and one of the healthiest fields of drivers showed up to compete. 22 Late Models, 10 Sport Stocks, 18 Pure Stocks, 45 Compacts, and 8 Figure 8 competitors were in action.

In the McIntosh Oil Company Late Model division 25-lap feature, 20 drivers lined up for the green flag. With a small inversion, sixth and fifth fast qualifiers Bryant Smith and Rich Marcum led the field at the start. Marcum raced into the lead and closed the door on the Late Model rookie. Despite the large field, drivers kept the race going until lap four, when a car running deep in the field spun to bring out the yellow. From this point on, the race got a little sloppy with plenty of cautions. During the small green flag runs, top qualifier Ryan Tedesco was working his way from sixth. On lap four, Tedesco took fifth. One lap later he took fourth, on lap eight, Tedesco was third and on lap eleven, the defending Late Model champion moved into second. Many thought Tedesco could muster up the run needed to get by Marcum, but the East Sparta, Ohio driver fended off challenge after challenge, never making a mistake and put his Marcum Racing #27 into the Downtown Ford victory lane for the first time. Following him to his first career feature win were Tedesco, Bubba Smith, Mike Miller, and Doug McMillen. The rest of the top ten were Mark Willison, Bob Schneider, Jr., Greg Beule, Bob Eichel, and Dave Watson. Tom Garbrandt, Eichel, and Farmer Smith won the heats.

Pole sitter Gabe Pringle led the first two circuits in the Tusco Net Sport Stock feature. Second place starter, Scott Archer, took over the lead on lap three, but it was short lived as well when Kevin McClintock made his way out front. McClintock immediately pulled into a decent lead and was in comfortable control as the field raced behind him. Fans had their eyes glued to the Pringle, Nick Grubbs, Blake Mackey, and Ron McBride battle for second. Even with a couple of mishaps closing the field up, McClintock led to the finish, while Grubbs, Pringle, Mackey, and McBride finished off the top five. Also following the Federated Auto Parts/Broadrun Cheesehouse #38 were top ten finishers Ron Dague, Archer, Hank Massaro, Jerry McNealy, and Chris Miller. McBride won the heat, while Dague set fast time.

The Midvale Speedway Pure Stock feature was an entertaining event, as expected. Teddy Oliver raced out front from his front row starting position, but was sent pitside moments later with a mechanical leak. Over the first couple of laps, Tory Gibbs picked up a number of spots to move into second. On lap four, Gibbs took the lead from Bob Passwaters, Sr. and raced into a huge lead. Top qualifier Rich Schweitzer, much like he did in the fast heat earlier, picked off a car at a time to move into second. Gibbs lead looked insurmountable, but Schweitzer’s car was on a rail and closing in quickly. Just as Schweitzer caught Gibbs, a caution bunched up the whole field. Over the last few circuits, Gibbs held off the veteran and went on to claim his fourth feature win of the year. Following the Port Washington, Ohio driver were Schweitzer, Joe Oliver, Todd Miller, and Doug Higgins. The rest of the top ten were Lee McCreery, Phil Bunton, Jr., Chris Smith, Passwaters, and Dan Hall. Schweitzer and Bunton were heat winners.

Chris Bloom started on the pole of the fast Parkway Suzuki Compact feature. Bloom held off Derek Grewell for a number of laps before Johnny Campbell took over second on lap 13. Over the final couple of paces, Bloom held a solid lane, Campbell tried high but couldn’t get by and the Dennison, Ohio driver claimed his first career Compact fast feature. Campbell, Grewell, Kelly McNutt, and A.J. Diano took top fives behind the HI 5 racing entry. Rich Dunlap, Don Rufener, Jr., Adam Mishler, Jason Morgan, and Kyle Rector finished off the top ten.

The Compact B feature had a number of different leaders. Jason Anthony was out front at the completion of lap one before Jake Albright assumed the top spot for the next five. The third leader of the race was Tim Westerfield, Jr. Westerfield was out front until lap thirteen when Compact veteran John McNutt became the final leader. McNutt raced his way to another feature win, while Jesse Page, Ron Myers, Cliff Cox, and Kyle Grove. Other top ten finishers were Jeffrey Orr, Bob Passwaters, Jr., Jim Campbell, Anthony, and Larry Ennis.

Kenny Jewell won by inches over Mike Belknap in the Compact third feature. Following them to the finish in the top ten were Doug Milburn, Tim Frederick, Paul Stull, Joe Slentz, Dale Lawson, Ronald Bunton, Pat Carnes, and Billy Nicholas.

Compact preliminary wins were claimed by Max McCartney, Ron Myers, Jesse Page, Earl Scranton, and Kenny Jewell. A.J. Diano was the night’s fast qualifier.

The Midvale Speedway Figure 8’s had eight drivers take the green flag. Gene Morgan raced into the top spot at the start and continued to hold a sizable lead until halfway. Moments later, a collision at the intersection involving he and his son, Jason, took both drivers out of the event and handed the lead to Don Rufener, Jr. Rufener went on to claim the feature win, while Kenny Jewell, Earl Scranton, Brad Henry, and Tim Frederick were still running at the finish.

This coming Saturday, July 19th, Midvale Speedway will host its annual racecar rides for kids at intermission. All kids will have the opportunity to ride in a racecar with one of their favorite drivers. Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, Compacts, and Legends will all be in action.

Pit gates open at 2:30, hotlaps and grandstands at 3:00, qualifying at 4:30, and racing at 6:30. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $6 for kids 6-15, and children 5 and under are free. Wristbands and rainchecks will still be valid from the partial rainout of a few weeks ago.
