Monday, April 20th Ohio's Fun Place to Race!! 2026 Race Season '08 Season Opener Complete At Midvale April 26, 2008 MIDVALE, OH - A solid field of cars, in upwards of 110, was on hand for the Tusco Net/Bloom’s Printing/Federated Auto Parts 2008-season opener this past Saturday, April 26 at Midvale Speedway. Fans were treated to a six division card that had exciting action from start to finish. The McIntosh Oil Company Late Models ran the first feature of ’08. Ron Jaberg, Jr. and Doug McMillen brought the sixteen car field down for the green. Jaberg raced out into the lead and controlled the field during the race’s early stage. However, the red and white #22 broke out of his qualifying time and was sent to the rear. Ninth place starter, Ryan Tedesco, was on the move in the outside groove. Just like 2007, the defending champion raced his way around leader Tom Garbrandt to take control. After a couple of crashes, one involving a hard hit for Rich Marcum and Mark Willison, the race was ended due to the time limit and Tedesco rolled into Downtown Ford victory lane. The Marathon Manufacturing/CC Performance #70 was followed by Garbrandt with his solid run, McMillen, Mike Miller, and Dusty Woodie. Bob Schneider, Jr., Bob Eichel, William Robinson, John Sluka, and Marcum completed the top ten. Miller and Eichel claimed the heat race wins, while Bubba Smith set fast time during time trials. The Northern Ohio Legends brought a field of fifteen for their first race of the new year. Top qualifier Jason Knox started from the seventh position and was on his way to the front when some slight contact sent another competitor spinning. Knox was charged for the mishap and sent to the rear. Frustrated but determined to get back to the front, Knox methodically picked off one car at a time and made a pass of Dale Dodge, Jr. during the race’s final stage to pick up his first career Midvale victory. Dodge finished second, while Larry Young, Randy Burns, and Travis Braden had solid top five’s. Jeff Huber, Mike Copen, Daniel Shively, Steve Rector, and Wendall Napper completed the top ten. NOTE: Braden's run was disallowed after tech. Billy Richards and Copen were heat race victors. The Tusco Net Sport Stock division came out for their 20-lap feature with Virgil Ravenscroft, III and Chris Kail starting on the front row. The first three drivers in the starting lineup, Blake Bitticker, Chris Miller, and Kevin McClintock took scratch because of mechanical problems. With the green in the air, Ravenscroft raced into the lead, while Blake Mackey and Kail fought for second. Behind them, Midvale Speedway veteran Ron Dague was on a rail, quickly working by his fellow competitors. Dague and his crew worked all afternoon long to make suspension components fit within rule guidelines and the work paid off as he raced into the top spot. Ravenscroft and Mackey followed for a number of laps before a brake problem created a crash which eliminated the third place car. Dague, all by himself, raced across the stripe in his Tolloti Pipe/Daggie’s Auto Service #75 to claim victory #1 of ’08. Following the New Philadelphia, Ohio competitor were Ravenscroft, Nick Grubbs, Randy Smart, and Scott Archer. The rest of the top ten were McClintock, Kail, Mackey, Miller, and Bitticker. Mackey and McClintock won the heats, while Grubbs set a new track record in qualifying. The Midvale Speedway Pure Stock event had Joe Oliver and Tory Gibbs bringing the field to green. Many thought the winner would come from the front row, as both drivers have claimed a number of Pure Stock feature victories. That wasn’t to be, though, as top qualifier Tad Grove was on his way forward from the eighth starting spot. Grove, racing his first career Pure Stock event, had the hot setup and used the outside lane to put on an impressive show. Making it look easy, the J.D. Byrider/CNAC Financing #3 raced to the stripe to claim a win in his first start. The New Philadelphia, Ohio competitor was scored ahead of Gibbs, Rich Schweitzer, Keith Anderson, and Todd Miller. Doug Higgins, Joe Oliver, Luther Chambers, Bob Passwaters, Sr., and Josh Anders finished off the top ten. Mike Phillips, Jr. and Miller claimed the preliminary wins. John McNutt and A.J. Diano, two drivers with much success at Midvale over the years, started at the front of the fast feature field for the Parkway Suzuki Compacts. McNutt, via the pole position was able to move ahead as Diano dropped into line. The biggest mover was 2006 champion Don Rufener, Jr. The longtime Midvale campaigner was the top qualifier and came from eighth to third. With the checkered in the air, McNutt claimed the fast feature trophy, while Diano, Rufener, Jay Hunt, and Gabe Pringle were credited with top five’s. Rich Dunlap, Adam Mishler, Brad Henry, Max McCartney, and Johnny Campbell were top ten finishers. Michael Keefe had a strong run in the second Compact main. Able to fend off challenges from a couple of different competitors, the Massillon, Ohio driver charged to victory. Jesse Page came across the line in second, but unfortunately the finish was disallowed due to a tech infraction. Derek Grewell, Bob Passwaters, Jr., Kyle Grove, and Jeffrey Orr finished in the top five. Tammy Rufener, Pat Carnes, Kyle Rector, Chris Bloom, and Joe Konovsek had top ten finishes. Billy Nicholas raced to his first career feature win by taking the third Parkway Suzuki Compact main of the night. It wasn’t easy though, as the Barnhill, Ohio campaigner had to fend off a challenge from Jason Anthony on the final two laps. Dan Konovsek, Kenny Jewell, and Kyle Lawson rounded out the top five. Ryan Kopp, Tim Frederick, Perk Pyle, Mike Lawson, and Jesse Crabtree finished their nights with a top ten. Compact heats were claimed by Brad Henry, Kelly McNutt, Joe Konovsek, Kyle Lawson, and Jesse Crabtree. Don Rufener, Jr. claimed the $100 top prize in the Figure 8 feature event. He defeated four other competitors to take the top money. Jason Morgan, Kenny Jewell, Tim Frederick, and Jesse Crabtree finished the event. Midvale Speedway will be back for autograph night this coming Saturday, May 3. Autographs will take place at intermission for the Late Model, Sport Stock, Pure Stock, and Compact drivers. A faster pastor race is also on the card. Pit gates will open at 2:30, hotlaps begin at 3:00, qualifying begins at 4:30, while racing will take to the track at 6:30.
