Great Action Shots Here
Nearly 100 cars were pitside for this past Saturday, July 14th events at Midvale Speedway. Ferris Chevrolet presented Family Night 2007 and a nice crowd was on hand to view a wild evening of racing action.
In the Advance Auto Parts Late Model division, Tony Urdiales and Ed Middaugh started on the front row for the 25-lap main. Middaugh raced into the early lead and looked to be the favorite. Quickly coming through the pack was point leader, Ryan Tedesco. Middaugh worked past several cautions and a strong challenge from the runner-up to remain in the top spot. Eventually, Tedesco slipped back a couple of spots as Mark Willison and John Ambrose, Jr. worked past him. Closing in on the final circuits, Middaugh broke out of his qualifying time for the second lap in the race and was sent to the tail. That handed the lead to Willison, while Ambrose challenged over the last couple of laps. As the checkered waved, it was Minerva, Ohio driver Mark Willison claiming the top prize. Ambrose, Tedesco, Mike Miller, and Doug McMillen were the rest of the top five. Finishing out the top ten were Tom Garbrandt, Tony Urdiales, Joel McKnight, Ron Jaberg, Jr., and William Robinson. Tedesco and Middaugh claimed the heats, while Ambrose took the pursuit win and set the fast lap in qualifying.
Ron Dague set the pace early in the Tusco Net Sport Stock 20-lap feature. Dague, who has been on a hot streak as of late, was running strong until the ball joint broke on his #75 racer. The race was then in the hands of Kevin McClintock, Scott Archer, and Randy Smart. McClintock, trying to run the outside lane, was visibly having handling problems as the sway bar had broken earlier in the event. While the point leader slipped back, Archer solidified his lead and ridded himself of bad luck to claim his first Sport Stock win this year. Following the Arch-a-motive #28 across the stripe were Smart, Virgil Ravenscroft, III, McClintock, and Nick Grubbs. The rest of the top ten were Gabe Pringle, Chris Kail, Brock Burcher, Roger Butler, and Greg Mazzoleni. McClintock and Pringle won the heats, Grubbs the pursuit, and Smart fast time.
The Midvale Speedway Pure Stock feature had Tory Gibbs setting the early pace. However, a late caution helped Chester McMasters close on the leader and race by after a restart. McMasters, who has a huge point lead, extended it with another dominating victory. Following the Louisville, Ohio driver were Gibbs, Rich Schweitzer, Andy Orr, and Keith Anderson. Doug Decker, Todd Miller, Dick Aubihl, Pat Moore, and D.J. Litten were top ten finishers. McMasters, Gibbs, and Litten won heats, while Anderson won the pursuit.
The fast feature for the Trails End Sports Compacts was an action packed event. Tom Barrett started on the pole for the 15-lap grind and somehow held off challenges from several competitors to go onto the victory. A.J. Diano, Michael Keefe, and Gabe Pringle all had great shots to get into victory lane, but Barrett closed the door and picked up his second fast feature win of the year. Keefe, Diano, Pringle, and Jason Morgan finished in the top five. Other top ten finishers were Brad Henry, Adam Mishler, Kelly McNutt, Chris Bloom, and Don Rufener, Jr.
Kenny Ford claimed the victory in the second Compact feature. Joe Konovsek, normally a fast feature competitor, could not get a run on Ford during the event. Earl Scranton finished third, Rusty Rouse, Jr. fourth, and James Domer fifth. The rest of the top ten were Pat Moore, Jason Grewell, Chris Kail, Jill Harshey, and Joe Oliver.
Mark Willison, Jr. finished off the great night for the Willison family as the youngster claimed the win in the third Compact feature. Pat Carnes was runner-up, while Kyle Lawson, Dan Konovsek, and Jim Campbell were credited with top five’s. Joe Elerick, Doug Milburn, Perk Pyle, Richard Duvall, and Jesse Crabtree had top ten’s.
Winning Compact heats were Michael Keefe, Joe Konovsek, Kyle Lawson, and Mark Willison, Jr. Brad Henry claimed the pursuit win, while Adam Mishler set fast time.
The J.D. Byrider Figure 8 division had 10 cars taking the green. Joe Oliver looked to be on his way to victory as other competitors were roughing each other up. The race included a rollover by Earl Scranton and a hard intersection hit by Joe Elerick and Don Rufener, Jr. During the final circuit, Oliver had a suspension component break on the rear and his lead evaporated. Lennie Orr raced to the $200 victory, while Jaimie Huebner, Scranton, Otto Polilli, and Jesse Crabtree finished off the top five. Oliver, Ryan Kopp, Rufener, Elerick, and Ryan Tedesco rounded out the top ten.
Racing will continue this coming Saturday, July 21 with the Faster Pastor race plus Legends, Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts. Qualifying will start at 4:30, while racing will begin at 6:30.
