Rent-a-Center presented the Stock Car Extravaganza this past Saturday, July 7 at Midvale Speedway. Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts had extra feature laps plus dashes and pursuits. The night featured some exciting racing.
In the Midvale Speedway Pure Stock division, Chester McMasters entered the night with an 815 point lead over the rest of the pack. Having the biggest point lead in any of the divisions, McMasters had done so despite not winning a feature until the previous Tuesday. Saturday, McMasters set fast time, rolled a number seven, and quickly came from the seventh spot to race to the feature lead. The Louisville, Ohio driver went on to win his second straight feature. Following him at the finish were Rich Schweitzer, Tory Gibbs, Teddy Oliver, and Todd Miller. Doug Decker, Bill Aubihl, Dick Aubihl, Pat Moore, and Sonny Ritch completed the top ten. McMasters won the dash, Doug Higgins, Chuck Sampson, and Oliver won the heats, and Decker won the pursuit.
In the fast feature for the Parkway Suzuki Compacts, Jason Morgan and Adam Mishler brought the strong field in for the green. While racing side-by-side, Mishler led the first three laps, but Morgan would go on to lead the next several. Just past the halfway mark, Mishler went back out front for a couple of circuits as the duo continued their unbelievable battle. After building a big lead on the rest of the field, the two Compact veterans eventually were caught by Kevin Renicker who was impressive in his 2007 fast feature debut. In the race that went caution free, Morgan was able to race back out front and win by mere inches over Mishler. Following the two were Renicker, Gabe Pringle, and Don Rufener, Jr. The rest of the top ten were Brad Henry, Kelly McNutt, Chris Bloom, Tammy Rufener, and Michael Keefe.
The Tusco Net Sport Stocks lined up for their 30-lap feature event. The first two starts were no good as cautions would wave. Once the green dropped for the third time, though, the race went from start to finish without a caution. Doug McMillen, a driver that has experienced plenty of bad luck with his Sport Stock racer, moved into the lead from his second row starting position. Kevin McClintock followed with Ron Dague in tow. McClintock tried lap-after-lap to go high on McMillen but eventually relinquished second place after getting boxed in by a lapped car. Dague tried over the final circuits to take the win, but McMillen was able to hold off the hard charging competitor. Following McMillen to his second feature win this season were Dague, McClintock, Nick Grubbs, and Scott Archer. Chris Kail, Mike Hostetler, Randy Smart, Virgil Ravenscroft, III, and Bill Aubihl were the rest of the top ten. Grubbs won the dash, McMillen and Archer the heats, and Archer the pursuit. Dague set fast time.
Mike Gribble won the second Compact feature, while Kyle Lawson won his first career feature in the third event. It should be noted the Gribble was celebrating his birthday.
Compact preliminary wins were claimed by Brad Henry in the dash, Mishler, Joe Konovsek, Kenny Jewell, and Dan Kononsek the heats, and Tad Grove the pursuit. Kelly McNutt set fast time.
Racing will continue this coming Saturday, July 14 with Family Night 2007. Face painting, bicycle give-a-ways and much more are on the schedule. Qualifying at 4:30, racing at 6:30.
