The J.D. Byrider of Dover Fan Appreciation Night was held this past Wednesday, June 6 at Midvale Speedway. Fans poured into the stands taking advantage of the $1 grandstand admission.
The main event of the night was the Trails End Sports Compact 30 lap fast feature. Tammy Rufener and Bob Passwaters, Jr. were the front row starters for the event. When the green dropped, B&H Racing teammates Ryan Tedesco and Gabe Pringle, started working towards the front. Tedesco, who won the Main Event race at Kil-Kare last Friday and the Midvale Late Model feature Saturday, was looking for his third straight feature win. Lap-after-lap continued to click off as Tedesco led the way with top the qualifier, Pringle, moving forward from his 13th starting position. Once catching Tedesco, Pringle ran the high lane trying to work around. With about five laps to go, it looked as though Tedesco was going to hang on. However, in the final circuits, Pringle got the run he needed in the second groove to take the lead and win in the J.D. Byrider 30. Tedesco finished second, Kelly McNutt third, Rufener fourth, and Cliff Cox came home fifth. The rest of the top ten were Don Rufener, Jr., Michael Keefe, Tad Grove, Adam Mishler, and Passwaters.
Jason Anthony and Keith Anderson started up front for the 20-lap Midvale Speedway Pure Stock feature. Doug Higgins, the third place starter moved into the lead during the early stages. Higgins led for a while, but Jimmy Orr and Chester McMasters were racing quickly to the front. Orr drove to the inside of Higgins to take over, while McMasters followed. With Terry Colletti’s checkered in the air, Orr crossed the line first to become Midvale Speedway’s first repeat winner in a regular division this season. Following the Mallett Energy #28 were McMasters, who set a new track record in qualifying, Higgins, Brian Wood, and Mike Phillips, Jr. Keith Anderson, Tim Oliver, Sonny Ritch, Chuck Sampson, and Todd Miller completed the top ten. Orr also won the dash and fast heat, while Higgins won the pursuit and Miller the whip race.
Chris Bloom moved from deep in the field in the 15-lap Compact middle feature to challenge Allen Andrews for the lead over the final paces. Andrews, who ran a near perfect line, held Bloom off as the white flag dropped. Heading into turn four on the final lap, Bloom made some contact with Andrews’ rear bumper sending him spinning. Andrews’ car, which was in a precarious position in turn four, was then slammed by Tim Frederick’s #41. Andrews was credited with the victory, while Bloom was penalized for his driving tactics. Jim Campbell finished second, while Ryan Kopp, Larry Ennis, and Mark Willison, Jr. finished in the top five. The rest of the top ten were Justin Renicker, Jason Grewell, Mike Roth, Dan Konovsek, and Frederick.
Pat Carnes, the heat race champion of Midvale Speedway, picked up his first career feature victory in the third Compact race. Over the last two seasons, Carnes has claimed more heat victories than any driver, but was winless in feature action. Following him to victory on Wednesday night were Earl Scranton, Kyle Lawson, Jay Hunt, and Felicia Myers. Mark Willison, Tammy Ondo, Dewey Robenstein, Barb Feister, and Perk Pyle were top ten finishers.
Gabe Pringle won the Compact fast dash, while Don Rufener, Jr., Tad Grove, Tim Frederick, Pat Carnes, and Earl Scranton won the heats. Ryan Tedesco won the pursuit, while Tom Barrett the whip.
Richie Ann Hall won the Pure Stock powder puff race, while Tiffany Calhoun won the Compact race for the ladies.
Racing will continue this coming Saturday, June 9 at Midvale Speedway. Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, Compacts, and Figure 8’s will all be in action. At intermission, all kids in attendance will be allowed to ride for a couple of laps around the track in a racecar driven by one of their favorite drivers.
Pit gates open at 2:45, hotlaps at 3:15, qualifying at 4:30, and racing at 6:30. Admission prices are regular at $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 62+, $6 for kids 6-15, and children five and under are free.
