Ohio's Fun Place to Race!! 2025 Race Season |
 | June 2, 2007 |
The fifth night of the 2007-racing season was action packed this past Saturday, June 2 at Midvale Speedway. Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts were all in competition and the fans were treated to the unbelievable entertainment of Spectator Drags at intermission. The night would end with six more first time winners this season.
The Advance Auto Parts Late Model 25-lap feature had a small field this week but the racing was as good as always. 2007 has been the year of two-wide racing for the Late Model class and on this night it was Ryan Tedesco’s turn to put on the show. Tedesco, coming off the Main Event Racing Series victory the night before at Kil-Kare Speedway, started in the fourth spot but was boxed in during the early circuits behind A.P. Ren, the outside polesitter. It looked as though Tedesco would fall out of contention, but he was not to be denied. Putting the car in the outside lane, Tedesco raced toward the front. After taking second, Tedesco drove to the highside of Greg Beule and raced into the lead. Following him was Mark Willison, who also had a strong run going. Coming across the line at the finish, the New Philadelphia, Ohio driver was followed by Willison, Beule, Mike Miller, and Doug McMillen. Ron Jaberg, Jr., A.P. Ren, Bob Eichel, and Chris Grubbs were the other competitors. In post race inspection, Willison’s tires were found to be softer than the allotted number of 55 and his runner-up finish was disallowed. Tedesco also won the fast dash in his Marathon Manufacturing #70, while Beule took the heat win. Mike Miller again set fast time.
Mike Hostetler and Jerry McNealy brought the field of Tusco Net Sport Stocks in for Terry Colletti’s green flag. McNealy raced into the lead, as Hostetler’s car had a noticeable miss. A couple of laps later, Blake Mackey worked around Hostetler and under McNealy to lead his first feature laps this year. Behind him, Nick Grubbs, Ron Dague, and Randy Smart were closing in. Grubbs took over the lead with a smooth outside lane pass, while Dague and Mackey ran side-by-side for a handful of laps before the veteran was able to take second. Crossing under the checkers were Grubbs in his McBride’s Auto Service/MJP Logging #24, Dague, Mackey, Scott Archer, and Smart. Virgil Ravenscroft, III, Hostetler, Gina Kail, McNealy, and Kevin McClintock completed the top ten. Grubbs won the fast dash, while Mackey won the heat race. Smart was quickest in the time trial session.
Another solid field of Midvale Speedway Pure Stocks converged for the 20-lap feature. Dan Hall and Keith Anderson started up front while Todd Miller and Mike Phillips, Jr. were moving forward from the back. Phillips, the night’s fastest qualifier, was the driver making all the right moves and taking the top spot. Phillips raced to the stripe with his first feature win of the season, while Ridge Pump/J-N-G Grill #11 was followed by Todd Miller, Dan Hall, Chester McMasters, and Al Street. Brian Wood, John McNutt, Anderson, Chuck Sampson, and Dick Aubihl crossed the stripe in positions six through ten. Later, Tim Oliver was credited with a top ten as second place finisher, Todd Miller elected not to have his engine pumped. McMasters won the fast dash, while Dan Hall and Doug Decker won the heats. Decker was later involved in a heavy crash as something broke on the right front of his racer. The driver was okay.
Chris Bloom and Johnny Campbell were the front row starters in the night’s fast Trails End Sports Compact feature. Greg Grove filling in for son Tad, was the third place starter in the event but was on the move early. Grove took the race lead looking for his first win in some time, as the veteran driver rarely gets behind the wheel anymore. Last week’s winner, Adam Mishler, turned out to be his only challenge. Mishler ran the highside for several laps but came up short at the end. The J.D. Byrider/Greg’s Recovery #3 was followed to the finish by Mishler, A.J. Diano, Ron Myers, and Campbell. Kelly McNutt, Jason Morgan, Joe Konovsek, Don Rufener, Jr., and Brad Henry were top ten finishers.
Kevin Renicker found victory lane behind the wheel of his sharp #75 racer during the second Compact feature. The Roswell, Ohio native was able to defeat Earl Scranton, Mark Willison, Jr., Jason Grewell, and Michael Keefe. Joe Fitch, Tim Frederick, Pat Moore, Bob Passwaters, Sr., and Justin Renicker were credited with top ten finishes.
Kenny Jewell won the third and final Compact feature of the night. For Jewell, it was win #1 during the 2007-season and the night ended without a repeat feature winner in any of the classes through the first five weeks of racing. Dan Konovsek, Kyle Lawson, Mike Keefe, and Jim Campbell were in the top five at the end. Joe Elerick, Justin Vanfossen, Rich Dunlap, Pat Carnes, and Howard Bartholow were in positions six though ten at the end.
Gabe Pringle won the dash race, while Bob Passwaters, Jr., Jason Grewell, Kenny Jewell, and Dan Konovsek were victorious in the heats. Kelly McNutt set fast time.
An exciting edition of spectator drags saw Eric Feister pick up the trophy as a total of nearly 20 cars competed.
Racing will continue this coming Wednesday night, June 6, as the $1 grandstand admission Fan Appreciation night will be held. Pure Stocks and Compacts will be running a special full program, while Spectator Drags and Powder Puff races are also on the card. Pit gates open at 5:30, practice begins at 6:00, qualifying at 6:45, and racing at 8:00. For more information, check us out on the web at midvalespeedway.com.
