Sunday, January 18th Ohio's Fun Place to Race!! 2025 Race Season Pringle Takes Top Sport Stock Honors August 19, 2006 Persistent afternoon rain showers caused the cancellation of qualifying this past Saturday, August 19, at Midvale Speedway. Delayed practice sessions were eventually held in the hours leading up to the night’s first green flag. Luckily for fans, drivers, teams, and officials worked together to get a very exciting night of racing in the books. In the Tusco Net Sport Stock 20-lap feature, Midvale, Ohio driver Gabe Pringle started on the pole position via the dice roll inverting the division point standings for starting spots. Pringle, after earlier winning the heat, jumped out into the early lead and had to fend off Nick Grubbs, Ron Dague, and others as he looked for his first feature win of the year. Weekly frontrunners, Keith Thomas and Kevin McClintock fell out of the event with transmission problems during the race’s early laps. Lap-after-lap, Pringle got closer to a very much deserved first feature win of the year. Earlier this season, Pringle had a hard crash of his primary car that retired it for the season. The weekly competitor decided to bring out the back-up, and despite several more weeks of hard luck he persevered to pick up win #1 this season. Following the Lucretia Sherer Realtor/Route 39 Auto Salvage #8 were Grubbs, Bill Aubihl, Dague, and Josh Grove. John Sluka, Bob Passwaters, Sr., McClintock, Blake Mackey, and Thomas finished in positions six through ten. Pringle won the heat, while Mackey took the pursuit win. In the Performance Race Fuels Late Model division, fellow UPS drivers Doug McMillen and Ryan Tedesco started on the front row for the 25-lap event. Tedesco shot into the lead and raced around the 3/10-mile oval at a blistering pace. With only one caution that came out on the opening circuit, Tedesco was lapping drivers that normally pick up top five finishes. As the strong field of competitors came in for the checkered, Tedesco crossed the line first followed by McMillen, Duane Dunn, Mike Miller, and Ron Jaberg, Jr. Unfortunately for Tedesco, though, his #70 racer was found to have a carburetor that did not meet the requirements of the go/no-go gauge. That handed the win to the Parkway Honda/Dale’s Heating & Cooling #54 of McMillen and moved Mark Willison into the top five. Bob Schneider, Jr., Marcus Malcuit, Greg Beule, Tom Garbrandt, and Mack Gribble, Jr. finished off the top ten. McMillen won the first heat, while Gribble took the second heat and pursuit. In one of the more thrilling races of the season, the Papa John’s Pure Stocks had a surprise winner at the end of their 15-lapper. Brian Wood and Chris Smith started up front via the points dice roll. Wood quickly took the lead and pulled away from the rest of the field. Later in the race, though, Smith started reeling in the leader in his front wheel drive V-6. With just a couple of laps to go, Smith snuck to the inside of Wood and raced into the top spot. Smith, in his under powered but light weight racer, looked to be on his way to feature victory #1, but weekly top qualifier Doug Decker was making a late race charge. On the final pace, Decker moved to the outside of Smith and came up just short in a photo finish at the stripe. Following the Boulevard Discount Auto/China Wok #34 of Smith were Decker, Wood, Rich Schweitzer, and Doug Higgins. Wood, though, was found with a carburetor other than a Holley 4412 and the top five finish was taken away, moving Chester McMasters into a top five finish. Tim Oliver, Tory Gibbs, Dick Aubihl, Rob Scott, and Charles Ritch were top ten finishers. Decker and Aubihl were credited with heat race wins, while Teddy Oliver won the pursuit. In the 15-lap Trails End Sports Compact A-Feature, Mike Gribble moved to the front quickly and dominated his way to the Downtown Ford Victory Lane. His fellow Legacy Homes racer, Ron Myers, made some daring moves to cross the line in second, while Brad Henry, Tad Grove, and Don Rufener, Jr. were top five finishers. Tom Barrett, Bob Schneider, Jr., Jason Morgan, Jesse Page, and John McNutt finished in the top ten. Steven Feister crossed the line first in the second Compact feature. However, the young driver became the third disqualification of the night when he failed to report directly to the tech line. Chris Bloom became the race winner, while Bob Passwaters, Jr., Pat Carnes, Eric Feister, and Ryan Kopp were credited with top five’s. Rounding out the top ten were Earl Scranton, Steve Roth, Paul Stull, Tammy Ondo, and Mark Willison, Jr. In the third and final Compact main event, Chris Grubbs battled his way past Russell Grandison, Mike Belknap, and Pat Moore to the event win. The Canton, Ohio area driver beat Grandison, Belknap, Moore, and Larry Ennis in the top five. Mark Fyffe, Dan Konovsek, Joe Fitch, Tom Richardson, and Howard Bartholow were top ten finishers. Bagging Compact heat wins were John McNutt, Jimmy Orr, Steven Feister, Russell Grandison, and Chris Grubbs. Mike Gribble took the pursuit win. Minerva, Ohio driver Justin Lawson picked up the victory in the always exciting Spectator Drag racing. Lawson went on to perform some smoke creating donuts on the front stretch. The first of five remaining nights of racing action will be held this coming Saturday, August 26 at Midvale Speedway. Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts will all be in action. Also, to top off the evening, a Compact Figure 8 race will be on tap. The special race will pay $100 to win, with $75, $50, $35, and $25 going to the top five finishers. As an added bonus, anyone else starting and making it to the finish of the race will receive $20 start money. Qualifying will begin at 4:15, while racing action takes its first green at 6:30.
