Sunday, April 12th Ohio's Fun Place to Race!! 2026 Race Season Garbrandt Claims Late Model Feature Win August 5, 2006 Midvale Speedway held its first annual Old-Timers night this past Saturday, August 5. 50+ past and previous stars at the track attended and were introduced to the fans at intermission. This year’s event was a huge success and many drivers that are deserving of an invite will be asked to attend next year. In racing action, Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compact ran a full program. In the Performance Race Fuels Late Model 25-lap event, racing action was clean and caution free in the early stages. Things, though, heated up later in the race as drivers battled for spots in the top five. Tom Garbrandt, the polesitter, jumped to the early lead as Rich Rohrer slid back in the outside lane. Garbrandt was followed closely by Rohrer before Mack Gribble, Jr. took over the second spot during his second week of action this season. Meanwhile, during an early caution, Rohrer went to the pits for adjustments on his #7. As he was trying to work his way back through the field, Garbrandt was ahead of drivers shuffling for position. Several cautions took place during the period as close racing created contact between drivers. The main challenge for the lead brought out a yellow as Ryan Tedesco ducked to the lowside of Garbrandt going into turn three. Slight contact ensued causing Garbrandt to spin. Tedesco admitted fault, handing the lead back to Garbrandt. As the race wore on, another heated moment took place between point leader Mike Miller and Rohrer as he was working his way back through the field. The incident nearly mirrored one from earlier in the season when the two spun down the frontstretch. Over the final circuits, Garbrandt held off a strong #12 of Gribble and beat him across the line. For Garbrandt, it was his first win in a couple of seasons and a well deserved one at that. The Trenton Service Tire/Tolloti Pipe #64 was followed by Gribble, Greg Beule, Jimmy Carter, and Rich Marcum. Tedesco, Darrel Dexter, Duane Dunn, Miller, and Bob Schneider, Jr. finished off the top ten. Rohrer and Bob Eichel won the heat races, while Beule won the pursuit. Tedesco set the fastest time in qualifying. In the Tusco Net Sport Stock division 20-lap feature, Jerry McNealy was the early race leader. Eventually, Josh Grove was able to work his way to the front. Grove, driving what was the back-up car until last week, raced out front as Keith Thomas followed him through the field. Thomas, looking for his seventh feature win in-a-row, had a caution come out on lap five that put him on the rear bumper of Grove for the final fifteen laps. Many thought that Thomas had enough time to work his way by, but after a couple of laps under green, fans could see that Thomas had no easy task. Grove decided to put his car as close to the bottom of the track as possible and make Thomas work by on the highside. Thomas gave it a valiant effort, as the Midvale, Ohio driver looked both to the outside and inside. Eventually though, the checkered was waving over top of the Grove Towing/J.D. Byrider #4 of Josh Grove. The Dover, Ohio driver was followed to his fourth win by Thomas, John Sluka, Ron Dague, and Kevin McClintock. McNealy, Virgil Ravenscroft, III, Bob Passwaters, Sr., Mike Royer, and Gabe Pringle completed the top ten. Grove won the heat, while McClintock took the pursuit. Thomas set fast time. Papa John’s Pure Stock action had Tusky, Ohio driver Doug Decker running strong all evening long. In qualifying, the veteran driver set fast time by over 1/2 second to the second place qualifier. In the fast heat, Decker came from the final spot in his Ford Thunderbird to pick up the victory. In the pursuit, Decker started at the back to finish in the third spot behind point leader Rich Schweitzer and another division front-runner Chester McMasters. Feature action had Decker starting near the tenth spot. It didn’t take long for him to start racing his way to the front. The blue and white #64 picked off one car at a time using the outside lane. Eventually, Decker was out front and set sail to the feature victory. The Union Hospital Pain Management/Dr. Andrew Luxenburg Acupuncture #64 was followed by Schweitzer, Doug Higgins, McMasters, and Teddy Oliver. Todd Miller, Brian Wood, Keith Anderson, Chris Smith, and Tory Gibbs were top ten finishers. Higgins won the second heat, while Brock Burcher took the second heat victory. With a strong field of Pure Stocks on hand, a second feature was held. Rookie driver Brock Burcher was at the front of the field and running strong after picking up his heat race win earlier in the night. Burcher would prove to be too tough for the rest of the field and held off Tim Oliver and Charles Ritch at the finish. Burcher was followed to his first career feature victory by Ritch, Oliver, Dick Aubihl, and Andy Orr. In the Trails End Sports Compact fast feature, Brad Henry and Eric Feister raced side-by-side for many laps while the fast drivers at the back of the field were boxed in having no where to go. Eventually, Henry was able to lead by himself while Feister and Eric Anderson ran closely behind. Crossing the stripe at the finish, Henry was followed by Feister, Anderson, Mike Hostetler, and Tom Barrett. Tad Grove, Mike Gribble, Ron Myers, Don Rufener, Jr., and John McNutt were top ten finishers. Nick Grubbs took the victory in the second Compact feature. Michael Keefe, Bob Passwaters, Jr., Ryan Kopp, and Earl Scranton were top five finishers. Bob Schneider, Jr., Cliff Cox, Jim Campbell, Mike Swaney, and Mike Pyle rounded out the top ten. Steve Roth won his second feature in-a-row in the third Compact main event. The #00 was followed by Pat Moore, Larry Ennis, Tammy Ondo, and Pat Carnes. Paul Stull, Rich Dunlap, Howard Bartholow, Joe Tedesco, and Billy Nicholas were in the top ten. Tom Barrett, Nick Grubbs, Michael Keefe, Jim Campbell, and Pat Carnes were the heat race winners, while Eric Anderson won the pursuit. John McNutt set fast time. The Main Event Racing Series returns this coming Saturday, August 12. The Super Late Models will be running 75 green flag laps, while the Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts will run their heats and features. Qualifying will begin at 4:15, while racing will start at 6:30.
