Sunday, April 12th Ohio's Fun Place to Race!! 2026 Race Season Miller Claims Another; LaJoie Finishes Sixth July 15, 2006 Grove’s Towing and Hartzler’s Quality Housing presented Family Night 2006 this past Saturday, July 15 at Midvale Speedway. Many exciting things were held for the children in attendance and Randy LaJoie, a two-time Busch Series champion, competed in the Late Model division. Longtime NASCAR competitor Randy LaJoie was a special guest of Midvale Speedway this past Saturday night. He was behind the wheel of A.P. Ren’s #57 Late Model and competed against the regulars in the class. After an unfound oil leak hampered his practice and qualifying runs, LaJoie qualified eighth behind fastest timer Doug McMillen. Bob Schneider, Jr. and Kenny Stevens took the evening’s heat race wins. For the 25-lap feature, a seven car inversion put seventh fast qualifier Bob Schneider, Jr. on the pole with Mark Willison alongside for the start. As the cars raced into turn two on the first lap, Schneider slid sideways, had minor damage, and had to retire from the event. That moved Willison to the pole and he looked to be on his way to a feature victory until Mike Miller started his march forward. Miller moved into the outside lane and raced by Tom Garbrandt for second and Willison for the lead for yet another feature victory. Following the Bob’s Auto Sales/Mr. Trailer #53 were Willison, Garbrandt, Ron Jaberg, Jr., and McMillen. Randy LaJoie moved his car into the outside lane and looked strong over the final laps to come home sixth, while Kenny Stevens, Ed Middaugh, Duane Dunn, and Bob Eichel completed the top ten. In the 20-lap Legend car feature, Jake Francis was the early leader, looking for his first Midvale victory. However, Jason Knox moved into second during the first few laps and while going to the inside heading to the first turn, the two made contact sending Francis spinning. Back to green, Knox led until fast qualifier Tim Davis set up an inside lane pass coming off of turn two by taking the high line in the first corner. Over the final few circuits, Davis had to hold off Dennis Knox, who had also made his way to the front. For Davis, it was his first win of the 2006-season. Dennis Knox, Jason Knox, Fred Davis, and Bryan Casey followed the Norton, Ohio driver across the line. The rest of the top ten were Billy Richards, Bob Petry, Bob Gindlesberger, Doug Gibson, and Larry Jewell. Casey, Fred Davis, and Jewell took the heat wins. In the Tusco Net Sport Stock division, many yellows plagued the event after division front-runner Keith Thomas took over the lead. Thomas ran away with yet another victory at that point, while John Sluka drove an impressive race to a second place finish. Also following the Renner & Daughter Concrete/C&K Auto Service #34 and the #21 were Ron Dague, Kevin McClintock, and Bill Aubihl. Kurt Waller, Nick Grubbs, Randy Smart, Gabe Pringle, and Bob Passwaters, Sr. were other top ten finishers. Will Walker won the fast heat, while Pringle claimed the second heat race win. Kevin McClintock set fast time. Point leader Rich Schweitzer was the early leader in the 15-lap Papa John’s Pure Stock feature. However, a leak coming from the car cost him the top spot and put Doug Higgins up front. Later, Chester McMasters was able to work by for the lead and went on to cross the finish line for the victory. However, while crossing the scales, his car was found to be too light and cost him a victory. That handed the win to Canton, Ohio driver Larry Smith. Smith was followed in the official rundown by Higgins, Schweitzer, Jimmy Orr, and Dick Aubihl. Tim Oliver, Curtis Collins, Charles Ritch, Pat Moore, and Andy Orr finished off the top ten. Tory Gibbs, Aubihl, and Moore won the heats, while Doug Deckers set fast time. Johnny Campbell and Eric Feister battled for the early laps in the Trails End Sports Compact fast feature. Campbell eventually took sole possession of the lead, but that allowed Don Rufener, Jr. to use the outside lane to race with him. Just over a lap later, Rufener was out front and on his way to feature victory #5 this season. The Compact point leader was followed by Ron Myers, who had a strong run, Feister, Campbell, and John McNutt. Mike Hostetler, Brad Henry, Mike Gribble, Ryan Kopp, and Tammy Rufener rounded out the top ten. Tom Barrett worked by Mike Pyle for the lead in the second Compact feature. He later held him off for his first feature victory of the season. Following the duo were Bob Passwaters, Jr., Tye Kelly, and Earl Scranton. Joe Konovsek, Larry Ennis, Jill Harshey, Pat Carnes, and Steve Roth were top ten finishers. Michael Keefe made a charge to pick up the third feature win of the night. Joe Warner came home second in his first feature start, Paul Stull third, Joe Fitch fourth, and Cliff Cox came home fifth. Joe Elerick, Mark Willison, Jr., Billy Nicholas, Howard Bartholow, and Kenny Jewell rounded out the top ten. Mike Gribble, Tom Barrett, Pat Carnes, Michael Keefe, and Mark Willison, Jr. were heat race winners. John McNutt set fast time. Racing will continue on Saturday, July 22 with the faster pastor race for area preachers. A 30-lap Pure Stock event will also be held. All four divisions are in action. Fans bringing their Sunday church bulletins from July 16 will receive $2 off admission. Qualifying is at 4:15 and racing will begin at 6:30.
