Ohio's Fun Place to Race!!
2026 Race Season
Dunn & McMillen Among Main Winners
May 20, 2006
After a week six rainout, racing was back underway on a clear but brisk Saturday May 20 evening at Midvale Speedway. Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts were all in action as well as round number two of the spectator drags.

In Performance Race Fuels Late Model action, Strasburg, Ohio driver Duane Dunn has been working hard all season long to make his car work in the second groove. Week-after-week Dunn tried diligently to pass cars in the outer lane but would usually end up disappointed with no results to show for it. However, this past Saturday Dunn’s luck would change as top qualifier, Doug McMillen rolled a low number of five on the dice to invert the top five qualifiers for the feature event. Dunn was fifth in qualifying, while A.P. Ren, the fourth fastest qualifier was slated to start alongside. When the green dropped, Dunn scooted into the lead, while Ren slipped back in the high lane in his first race of the year. Rich Rohrer, the third place starter, moved into the second spot and the two cars briefly broke away from the field. Towards the middle of the race, it looked as though Rohrer would challenge Dunn for the top prize, but over the final circuits as Rohrer slid slightly back, Dunn pulled away for the victory. In what turned out to be the third Late Model feature in a row that has gone caution free, the Renner & Daughter Concrete Construction/Swan Fabrication #32 of Duane Dunn picked up his first victory of the season. Rohrer was second, while Dave Watson came home an impressive third in the Jaberg Racing #22. Fourth was Doug McMillen, while Mike Miller finished fifth. Tom Garbrandt, John Sandquist, A.P. Ren, Ed Middaugh, and Mark Willison completed the top ten. Miller and Greg Beule won the heats, while Middaugh took the pursuit. McMillen set the fastest time in qualifying.

A small field of Tusco Net Sport Stocks had Kevin McClintock and Josh Grove starting the race on the front row. Flagman, Terry Colletti waved the green to see McClintock race in front of the field, while Grove dropped into second. Later, while Grove and McClintock were racing for the lead, the two made contact and McClintock spun. Grove admitted fault and went to the tail of the field giving the lead back to McClintock. After a couple of cautions during the event, McClintock looked to be on his way to victory. However, the night’s fastest qualifiers, Keith Thomas and Doug McMillen were on the move. With McMillen in second and around five laps to go, McClintock slid sideways out of two and McMillen raced to the outside. The duo traded some paint entering turn three and McMillen shot into the lead for his second Sport Stock victory of the season. Following the Parkway Honda/Dale’s Heating & Cooling #54 were Thomas, McClintock, Bill Aubihl, and Grove. Nick Grubbs, Kurt Waller, Gabe Pringle, John Sluka, and Ron Dague rounded out the top ten. Dague and Aubihl won the heats, while Grubbs took the pursuit. Thomas set fast time.

Rich Schweitzer and Chester McMasters started up front for the 15-lap Papa John’s Pure Stock feature, with Schweitzer racing into the lead. However, with a small inversion of four, the night’s fastest qualifier, Randy Smart, was able to challenge for the top spot rather easily. With Smart taking the lead and the second fastest qualifier, Doug Decker, moving into second, Schweitzer settled into the third spot with McMasters fourth. A lot of dicing back in the field caused the race to be marred with a handful of cautions. When the checkered waved, it was the Dr. Kurt Garren/Adam Myers Podiatry #17 of Smart taking the victory, while Decker had his best run and finished second. Schweitzer came home a respectable third, while McMasters finished fourth and Charlie Childress impressed with his top five run. Keith Thomas, driving the David Breehl #49 had a sixth place run, while Brian Oliver, Keith Anderson, Adam Mackey, and Jimmy Orr rounded out the top ten. Decker, Brian Oliver, Joe Fewkes, and Smart were preliminary winners.

Adam Mishler and Jason Morgan started on the front row for the 15-lap fast Compact feature, but this night was Uhrichsville, Ohio’s John McNutt’s. Used to coming from the back of the field to pick up feature wins, McNutt had it relatively easy on Saturday as the small inversion number put him in the third starting spot. After working by Morgan, McNutt was able to race past Mishler and into the lead. In another exciting Compact fast feature, McNutt took his first 2006 victory while Troy McMath finished second, Don Rufener, Jr. third, Mishler fourth, and top qualifier Ron Myers crossed the stripe in fifth. The rest of the top ten were Morgan, Eric Anderson, Tad Grove, Steven Feister, and Mike Hostetler.

Mike Roth held fended off a strong challenge from Jason Anthony to win his first career feature. Roth, who has been plagued with car troubles during his short racing career, finally had his hard work payoff with the feature trophy. Anthony finished second, Brad Henry third, Ryan Kopp fourth, and Kenny Jewell fifth. Jill Harshey, Michael Keefe, Steve Roth, Cody Shuss, and Earl Scranton completed the top ten.

As Joe Elerick was trying to defend the race lead from Jaimie Huebner, Mark Willison, Jr. creeped into the picture and shot by to the inside to go on to his first career feature victory. Earlier in the night, the fifteen year old won his first career heat during his rookie season. Following the Minerva, Ohio driver were Elerick, Fireball Murray, Jaimie Huebner, and Ben Gibson. Mark Fyffe, Howard Bartholow, Joe Fitch, D.J. Litten, and Pat Moore completed the top ten.

Tad Grove, Tammy Rufener, Steve Roth, Mike Swaney, and Mark Willison, Jr. won the heats, while Grove also won the pursuit.

This coming Saturday night, May 27, four divisions of action will be held, while the Tusco Net Sport Stocks will race for 30-laps in a special event feature. The Sport Stocks, despite low numbers at times, have put on some great racing this season. Qualifying starts at 4:20, while the racing will take its first green flag at 6:30.
