2026 Race Season
McClintock, Tedesco, Smart, & Grove Winners
April 22, 2006

McClintock, Tedesco, Smart, & Grove Winners
Over 100 race teams participated this past Saturday night, April 22, at Midvale Speedway. Five divisions were in action, as the Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts were competing for points, while the Compact Figure 8’s were running their first event of the season.

The night was rough on equipment for the Tusco Net Sport Stock class. It all started in Pursuit race action, as Will Walker’s car climbed the car of Gabe Pringle coming out of turn four. Walker’s right front wheel drove right into the driver window of Pringle as the two were locked up going into turn one. After several moments under red, the right front wheel was removed so the cars could be pulled apart. Luckily for Pringle, his window net held up to the pressure and kept the wheel from entering any farther. Both drivers were ready by feature time.

In the 20-lap Sport Stock feature, Pringle would again have problems, this time much more severe. As Pringle was running on the lowside of Chris Grubbs, Grubbs went up the banking allowing room for Kurt Waller to make it three wide. As the trio of drivers prepared to enter turn three, contact was made and Pringle and Grubbs went hard into the turn three wall. In the process, Pringle’s roof and a wheel flew off making for a violent slam into the retaining barriers. Back to action, it was Nick Grubbs, Kevin McClintock, and Ron Dague running out front. Coming out of turn four with four laps to go, Grubbs #24 spun sideways in front of the field handing McClintock the feature victory in a time shortened race. McClintock, the current Sport Stock point leader, dedicated the race to Gene Tolloty, the former owner of Midvale Speedway and owner of Square Deal Auto Parts where McClintock is employed. Tolloty passed away Friday of a heart attack. Ron Dague came home second, Grubbs third, John Sluka fourth, and Chris Boone fifth. The rest of the top ten were Waller, Chris Grubbs, Pringle, Doug McMillen, and Paul Murray. Josh Grove and Waller won heats, while McMillen took the pursuit and was top qualifier on the evening.

John Sandquist and Ryan Tedesco started up front in the 25-lap Performance Race Fuels Late Model feature. Tedesco, the previous week’s winner, started his night in style by winning the second heat and the pursuit. On the start, Tedesco raced into the lead as Sandquist slid back on the inside lane. Drivers doing the most racing were Duane Dunn, Mark Willison, Don Harvey, Jr., Rich Rohrer, and Mike Miller. All seemed to battle with each other at one point during the race. Willison eventually spun during a side-by-side battle with Harvey, but restarted at the back and picked up some positions by the end. Over the remaining circuits, it was Tedesco out front with Harvey and Rohrer, who had gone to the tail earlier in the race, running second and third. Tedesco was in cruise until Harvey applied some pressure, but in the end, the Marathon Manufacturing #70 of Tedesco crossed the line victorious. Following the New Philadelphia, Ohio driver to his third victory of the night was Harvey, Rohrer, Miller, and Sandquist. Bob Schneider, Jr., Willison, Ron Jaberg, Jr., Dunn, and Tom Garbrandt completed the top ten. Harvey won the fast heat, while Miller was the top qualifier with a new track record.

In Papa John’s Pure Stock action, Dover, Ohio driver Randy Smart continued his hot streak by setting fast time in qualifying. In heat race action, Teddy Oliver, Doug Decker, and Chris Miller were credited with victories and Rick Elkins, Jr. official won the pursuit. Smart started deep in the field of Papa John’s Pure Stocks, as 15 were inverted from the dice roll. Early, Smart diced his way through the field in the first few laps. After a lap five caution, Smart continued his way to the front and took over the lead to cruise to his second straight feature victory. Following the Adam Myer’s Podiatry/Realty Executives #17 were Chuck Elkins, Rich Schweitzer, Rick Elkins, Jr., and Doug Decker. The rest of the top ten were Chester McMasters, David Breehl, Tim Oliver, Keith Anderson, and Lou Francis.

Again, the best racing of the night took place in the Trails End Sports Compact division. After a rough night of racing that saw several cars tore up in other classes, the Compact fast feature hit the track and competed two and three wide in a clean affair. Racing into the early lead was Neil Rolli. Rolli, driving a Chevrolet Cavalier this season, turned his career best qualifying effort and was pulling away from the feature field. However, on the final circuit when the race looked to be his to win, Tad Grove made a charge to the inside for the race lead. As they crossed the line under Terry Colletti’s checkered flag, Grove edged ahead for his first victory this season. Rolli, Jimmy Orr, Chris Bloom, and Jason Morgan followed the J.D. Byrider Racing/Gemstone Gas Supply across the line. Other top ten finishers were Mike Hostetler, Adam Mishler, Troy McMath, Blake Mackey, and Don Rufener, Jr.

In second feature action, Jason Anthony was back behind the wheel of his #6 racer after a week off. Anthony returned in fashion, as the Canton, Ohio driver was able to defend the lead the final two laps as Jesse Page looked for his second win in-a-row. Anthony went on to win his second feature this season, while Page, Bill Wilkin, Earl Scranton, and Kenny Jewell completed the top five. The other top ten finishers were Johnny Campbell, Jill Harshey, Joe Milburn, Jim Campbell, and Fireball Murray.

The Compact third feature had Canton, Ohio driver Tammy Ondo victorious. The second year competitor was followed by Frank Carson, Ryan Kopp, Mark Willison, Jr., and Pat Moore. Jay Hunt, Howard Bartholow, Joe Elerick, Bruce Gibson, and Bob Viertel completed the top ten.

Compact preliminaries were claimed by Mishler, Irwin, Harshey, Kopp, and Ondo. Grove won the pursuit and Ron Myers set the track record with an 18.06 in qualifying.

Despite only a four car field in the Compact Figure 8 feature, Don Rufener, Jr. was able to make a pass and pick up a close win. Will Miller finished second, Bruce Gibson was third, and Larry Ennis was fourth. Compact Figure 8 racing will resume on Saturday, May 13. A larger field is expected.

Racing action will move to week #4 on Saturday night, April 29. Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts will all race. The special feature of the night will autograph night at intermission. Pits will open at 2:00, hotlaps will start at 2:30, qualifying will be at 4:20, and racing will start at 6:30.
