Tuesday, April 14th Ohio's Fun Place to Race!! 2026 Race Season Three New Feature Winners At Midvale July 9, 2005 Nearly 100 cars in four divisions of racing competed this past Saturday night, July 9 at Midvale Speedway. Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts all raced, while the kids got the chance to take to the track at intermission for the bicycle races. In the Performance Race Fuels 25-lap feature, Doug McMillen and Steve Gilland started on the front row, as both drivers looked for their first feature wins of the season in Late Model action. McMillen raced into the lead, while Gilland and Garbrandt battled side-by-side for second and third. With just a couple of laps in, some contact sent the second place car of Gilland into the outside retaining wall. Amazingly, the rest of the field was able to avoid any further damage. Gilland retire from the event. Back to green, it was McMillen trying to fend off strong challenges from point leader Mike Miller, who was able to take second from Garbrandt. As the laps wore down, the New Philadelphia, Ohio driver stayed out front and cruised to his first Late Model win of the season. Following the Pangrazio’s Pizza/Russ Moore & Sons Concrete #54 were Miller, Garbrandt, Bubba Smith, and Duane Dunn. The rest of the top ten were Ron Dague, Bob Schneider, Jr., Mark Enos, Tom Feller, Jr., and Travis Devore. Miller and Enos won the heats, while Smith took the pursuit race. Ron Dague set fast time in the Todd Miller Excavating #11. The best race of the night may have been the Tusco Net Sport Stock 20-lap feature event. Gabe Pringle and Kevin McClintock started on the front row for the race and Pringle moved into the early lead. Roger Linard was the first to challenge Pringle for the top spot, but Keith Thomas worked by shortly thereafter. After Thomas’ attempt failed, Wes Gilland made a strong run and was able to race into the lead for his first career feature victory. Following the victor of the race that went flag-to-flag was Pringle, Thomas, Linard, and McClintock. Josh Grove, Don Rufener, Jr., Paul Murray, Chad Dixon, and Nick Grubbs completed the top ten. Thomas and Dixon won the heat races, while Gilland took the pursuit. Gilland also claimed the Fuel Depot of New Philadelphia $250 bonus for being top qualifier and winning the feature event. Scott Archer again worked his racing magic, as the Canton, Ohio driver raced through the field to move out front in the 15-lap Papa John’s Pure Stock feature. After victory lane celebrations however, Archer, along with top qualifier Al Street, refused engine teardowns and lost credit for July 9 racing and were eliminated for the rest of the 2005-racing season. Doug Higgins was credited for the victory. Following the Eadie’s PDQ/Canton Rugby #13 were Joe Oliver, Rick Elkins, Jr., Randy Smart, and Paul Parson. The rest of the top ten were Bryant Smith, Dan Moore, Chester McMasters, Dick Aubihl, and Bob Passwaters, Sr. Smart, Smith, and Moore won the heats, while Tim Rodgers was credited with the pursuit win. Greg Grove set the official fast time. Musick & Myers Heating & Cooling Compact fast feature racing had John McNutt out front of the 15-lap event. However, after being pressured by runner-up Josh Irwin, McNutt broke out of his qualifying time and was eliminated from action. From that point on, Irwin had a huge lead and hung on for the feature victory. Following the Wainright, Ohio driver were Jason Morgan, Tad Grove, Kelly McNutt, and Perry Nave. The rest of the top ten were Don Rufener, Jr., Kyle Grewell, Tom Barrett, Troy McMath, and James Domer. In the second Compact feature event, Jesse Page held off challenges from Kenny Ford and Derek Grewell to pick up the feature victory. Following the #02 of Page were Ford, Grewell, Steve Lute, and Earl Scranton. Rounding out the top ten were Kenny Jewell, Chris Smith, Mike Hostetler, Mike Pyle, and Brad Henry. Barnhill, Ohio driver Johnny Campbell picked up his first career feature victory, after earlier winning his first heat race event. After being passed by Campbell for the lead, Tammy Ondo settled into second place, while Bob Viertel, Travis Mazzoleni, and John Wissman, Sr. completed the top five. Cody Shuss, Pat Carnes, Ryan Kopp, Paul Stull, and Steve Roth were top ten finishers. Josh Irwin, Jack Grove, Derek Grewell, Jill Harshey, and Johnny Campbell won the heats, while John McNutt claimed the pursuit. Kelly McNutt set fast time. Racing action continues this coming Saturday, July 16, as Spectator Drags will return at intermission. Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts are also on the night’s card. Pit gates open at 2, grandstands at 2:30, and qualifying is at 4:00. Racing will start at 6:30. The Late Model top qualifier will be running for the All Parts & Supply $200 award bonus if he can win the feature. The Sport Stock top qualifier will be running for the $25 Fuel Depot award if he can win the feature and if the Pure Stock top qualifier wins the feature, he will pick up an additional $75 courtesy of J.D. Byrider of Dover. The DLC Racing Equipment Hard Charger of the Night was rookie Wes Gilland.
