Tuesday, April 14th Ohio's Fun Place to Race!! 2026 Race Season Smith & Pringle Big Midvale Winners June 18, 2005 130 race machines were in the pits for racing action on a beautiful Saturday night, June 18. The Legend cars joined Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts for five divisions of racing action. The first feature up was the 20-lap Legend car race. The race got off to a rough start, as a crash in turn one eliminated Bill Richards and Robert Merino. During the caution period, Dennis Knox had an oil pan problem that put fluid all the way around the track and caused him to retire from action. Finally, the race got underway, but a couple of more cautions came out before the end. Plano, Texas driver Scott Merino was on the move and raced into the lead and was followed by Larry Young and Rick Riffle. Following those three across the stripe at the finish were Mark Merino and Fred Davis. The rest of the top ten were Tom Spisak, Tim Davis, Tim Williams, Randy Burns, and James Rader. Mark Merino, Mike Luke, and Duane Lorens won the heats, while Rick Riffle set fast time. Up next was the Performance Race Fuels Late Model 25-lapper. A stellar field of 17 cars took the green flag. Bob Schneider, Jr. and Bubba Smith made up the first row of the event, and when the green dropped, Smith raced out front. The first caution of the race did not fly until lap 13. That bunched the field up with Smith having John Crumrine and Phil Rozum in his rear view mirror. With the green back out again, Smith was strong enough to maintain a couple of car length lead on the two drivers that finished first and second the previous week. At the checkered flag it was the Smith’s Auto Sales/Canton Auto Salvage #12 of Smith picking up his second feature win of the season followed by Crumrine, Rozum, Mike Miller, and Dave Watson. Don Harvey, Jr., Duane Dunn, Steve Gilland, Schneider, Jr., and Mark Willison. Smith and Tony Urdiales won the heats, while Harvey set fast time, tying the track record. The Tusco Net Sport Stock 20-lapper was an exciting one, as New Philadelphia, Ohio’s Gabe Pringle led in the early going as he got by Paul Murray, Chad Dixon, and Bill Hilliker, the first three starters in the field. Pringle had a large lead built up, but a lap 15 caution bunched the field up, putting Keith Thomas on Pringle’s rear bumper. When the race went back to green, everyone knew that Pringle would have his hands full. As the cars exited turn two, Thomas clipped the leader’s rear bumper, sending him spinning. Thomas immediately admitted fault on the caution flag and allowed Pringle to move back out front. Thomas restarted at the back. At the checkered, Pringle picked up his first win of the year, while Wes Gilland, Roger Linard, Kevin McClintock, and Josh Grove followed the Smitley Realty and Lucretia Sherer #8 in the top five. The rest of the top ten were John Tantarelli, Jr., Keith Thomas, Bill Hilliker, Paul Murray, and Don Rufener, Jr. McClintock and Murray won the heats, while Thomas set fast time with a new track record. Bob Passwaters, Sr. and Joe Oliver started on the front row of the 15-lap Papa John’s Pure Stock feature event. As that duo raced up front, Canton, Ohio’s Scott Archer was again making a strong bid at yet another feature win. The Arch-a-Motive #28 was flying through the pack, with top qualifier Al Street following, and moved into the race lead. Archer went on to pick up his fourth victory of the season and was followed by Rick Elkins, Jr., Doug Higgins, Al Street, and Randy Smart. The rest of the top ten were Joe Oliver, Blake Mackey, Chuck Elkins, Rob Scott, and Rich Schweitzer. Scott, Oliver, and Joe Fewkes won the heats, while Street set the fastest time. Neil Rolli led in the early going of the Musick & Myers Heating & Cooling fast feature. After an impressive run, Wainright, Ohio driver Josh Irwin was able to move by in the outside lane. Irwin went on to pick up his second victory of the season in the Mid-Vid Racing Video/Performance Race Fuels #69 while Rolli, Adam Mishler, Troy McMath, and Kyle Grewell completed the top five. The rest of the top ten were Don Rufener, Jr., Tad Grove, Tom Barrett, Jason Morgan, and Dale Beatty. Nick Grubbs won the second Compact feature. Grubbs, who earlier in the night, purchased the Sport Stock of Glen Jewell, was followed across the stripe by Bruce Gibson, Jesse Page, Mike Hostetler, and Cody Shuss. The rest of the top ten were Mike Roth, Kenny Jewell, Mike Jones, Jason Anthony, and Richard Duvall. The final Compact feature victory was claimed by Chris Grubbs. Bill Burkholder, Pat Carnes, Bob Viertel, and Barb Feister finished off the top five. The rest of the top ten were Johnny Campbell, Ryan Kopp, Paul Stull, Tammy Ondo, and Steve Roth. Compact heat wins were claimed by Don Rufener, Jr., Kenny Ford, Jesse Page, Bruce Gibson, and Tammy Ondo. Adam Mishler was the night’s top qualifier. The next event is this coming Saturday, June 25. Late Models, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts will race for the Mid-Season Championship trophies. Heats, pursuits, and features will be run. Admission prices are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 62+, and $6 for kids 6-15. Qualifying is from 4:00-6:00 and the racing will start at 6:30. The following event will be the Main Event Super Late 100 on Sunday, July 3. Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts will also race. Racing will start on that Sunday at 6:30. The Late Model top qualifier will be racing for the All Parts & Supply $150 bonus if he can win the feature. The Sport Stock top qualifier will be running for the $200 Fuel Depot award and if the Pure Stock top qualifier wins the feature, he will pick up an additional $125 courtesy of J.D. Byrider of Dover. Scott Archer, the Pure Stock feature winner was the DLC Racing Equipment Hard Charger of the night.
