130 race drivers were in pits this past Saturday, June 12, at Midvale Speedway. Week #10 of the season’s schedule featured the ARCA Lincoln Welder Super Trucks, along with Late Models, Modifieds, Sport Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Compacts.
It was a picture-perfect night for defending ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series champion Chad Guinn, who led flag-to-flag to win the Performance Race Fuels 100 Saturday night at Midvale Speedway.
Guinn, in his father Larry Guinn’s BFI-M&M-Northland Collision Chevy S-10, also won the Pork Pole award earlier in the day with a new one-lap track record of 15.070 seconds. It was Guinn’s 19th career victory in his 58th series attempt.
Outside polesitter and rookie Brett Rowe gave chase in the early going before his transmission failed on lap 27 relegating the Barboursville, West Virginia driver to 14th in the final running order. From there, rookie Rick Knowles and Brian Rowe did their best to keep Guinn within striking distance, but neither was able to mount a challenge on the eventual winner.
Knowles finished second in the Rosen Racing Chevrolet in front of Rowe, who finished third in the Pate Manufacturing Chevrolet. Series veteran Jeff Speakman, subbing for Tully Esterline in the Rupp Seeds Chevrolet, finished fourth, one lap down ahead of John Kasmierski, who finished fifth in the Carpenters Local 1138-KJ Excavating Chevrolet.
Kevin Reeb, Bill Withers, Mark Otting, Brad Yunker and Craig Meyers completed the top-ten finishers.
In addition to the winner’s purse, Guinn picked up the Cloyes Gear Halfway Lap Leader award and the RJS Safety Belt award. Yunker, who started 16th and finished 9th, earned the Ed & Company Hard Charger award for advancing the most positions.
18 cars started the Tolloti Pipe Modified 20-lap feature event. After qualifying, the top eight in the Modified division drew pills for their starting position. Glen Jewell drew the number one pill, and when the green flag dropped shot into the lead and pulled away for the convincing victory. Following the Texas Roadhouse/J.D. Byrider #24 to its fourth victory were Keith Thomas, Dave Watson, Mark Willison, and Doug Meyer. Mark Enos, John Wilson, Matt Leedy, Will Walker, and Mike Bowers completed the top ten. Leedy and Jim McCune won the heats, while Watson set fast time.
In the Performance Race Fuels Late Model division, Doug McMillen started on the pole position with Darrel Dexter in the outside lane. McMillen drove into the lead on the start with Rich Marcum taking the second spot. Marcum looked for the lead a couple of times before the lead duo had challenges from Dave Wagner and Farmer Smith in the outside lane. At the halfway mark, Marcum and McMillen had contact that sent Marcum pitside and McMillen back into the lead. Over the final circuits, McMillen, in the Tusco Net/Pangrazio’s Pizza #78, was able to hold off any challenge from Wagner to pick up his third Late Model victory in his rookie season. Wagner, Smith, Tom Garbrandt, and Mike Miller completed the top ten. Dexter, Duane Dunn, Greg Beule, Bear Schwartz, and Bob Gainer completed the top ten. Beule and McMillen won the heats, while Smith set fast time.
Don Rufener, Jr. and Bubba Smith started on the first row for the 20-lap Tusco Net Sport Stock feature event. After several laps, Smith, a rookie, was able to wrestle the lead away from Rufener. The Canton driver, in the Smith’s Auto Sales/Canton Auto Sales #12, was able to pull away with his second victory in a row. Rufener, Doug McMillen, Kurt Waller, and Kevin McClintock rounded out the top five. Completing the top ten were John Tantarelli, Jr., Rich Stalnaker, Roger Butler, Cody Kahler, and Steve Mowery. Butler and Mowery won the heats, while McMillen set fast time.
In Papa John’s Pure Stock action, Bob Passwaters, Jr. and Larry Smith brought the 21-car field in for the green. Smith moved into the lead, but Randy Smart and Rick Elkins, Jr. were coming up quickly. At the end of the 15-lap event, Smart picked up the feature victory in the Kurt Garren and David Hartman M.D.’s #17, while Elkins, Smith, Greg Grove, and Al Street completed the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Doug Higgins, Passwaters, Chuck Elkins, Rob Scott, and Rocky Moore. Street, Chuck Elkins, and Scott won the heats, while Rick Elkins, Jr. set fast time.
In the Compact fast feature, Terry Colletti picked up his fifth win this season, defeating, Kelly McNutt, John McNutt, Russell Grandison, and Tye Kelly rounded out the top five. Finishing off the top ten were Tom Barrett, Adam Mishler, Kenny Jewell, Josh Irwin, and Nick Grubbs.
In the second feature, Earl Scranton crossed the line in first, but in post race inspection was found to have inappropriate springs. Bryant Smith ended up picking up his first career victory, while Allen Andrews, Jesse Page, Tracy Lovell, and Mike Gribble completed the top five. The rest of the top ten were Tammy Rufener, Bruce Gibson, Jason Garrett, Eric Feister, and Eric Anderson.
In the final feature, James Domer picked up his first career victory. Following the Beach City, Ohio driver were Chris Smith, Joe Elerick, Kenny Griffith, and Bob Viertel. Barb Feister, Ben Gibson, John Wissman, Jr., Laura Tedrick, and Richard Duvall completed the top ten.
Adam Mishler, Eric Anderson, Tracy Lovell, Chris Smith, and Steven Feister won Compact heats, while Terry Colletti set fast time.
