Ohio's Fun Place to Race!! 2024 Race Season |
| July 18, 2015 |
Another night of first's are in the books at Midvale Speedway. We had a couple first time winners and one of the first Saturday's without the threat of rain. Add in one of the hottest and most muggy days and you have yourself an Interesting evening. Sixty five machines made the haul to the 3/10 mile over under partly cloudy skies and 93 degrees for Akron Auto Auction Night featuring the Adkins Glass MSA Super Modified's.
The first feature to hit the Speedway was the Finish Line Motors Mini Trucks for their 12 lap feature and an exciting 12 laps it was. Keith Anderson in the #32 and Derek Cordia in the #72 brought the field down for the start. Lee McCreery who was substituting for Dusty Nicholas in the #23 made a 3-wide move for the lead on the bottom lane in turn one. With McCreery taking the race lead, the #118 of Colt Locker went to the high side and made a 3-wide pass of his own to take over second. The front two would run nose to tail over the first seven circuits. Locker seemed to have a much better handling truck in the feature, as he was riding the cushion during the heat race with a super loose truck. After the first caution on lap seven, the lead duo would again pull out but this time Locker started to apply pressure. That pressure would force McCreery into a mistake on lap ten that would cost him the race. He packed it into turn one and locked up the brakes, causing him to loop the #23 machine. After the green-white-checkered restart, McCreery would make one last effort from the back but could only muster a runner-up finish and Locker would pick up his first career victory. Following the Somerdale OH driver in the Townhouse, Locker Racing sponsored #118 was McCreery, Cordia, Matt Wallick and Anderson.
Race number two of the season for The Adkins Glass MSA Super Modified's were next to take the Speedway for their 30 lap feature. The #07 of Kevin Jaycox Jr and the #64 of Jim Paller brought the field down for Chief Starter Terry Colletti's Green Flag. Paller would scoot out to the race lead with Jaycox close in tow. An early caution for the #81 of Denny Fisher who got into turn one a little deep, made contact with the #77 of AJ Lesiecki, sending Fisher into the turn one wall. Lesiecki worked his way to third after starting in the fifth spot. On the lap five restart, Lesiecki made quick work of Jaycox Jr and set his sights on Paller. On lap seven, "Chargin" Charlie Schultz in the #7 was working the inside of Jon Henes in the #36 for the fourth position when they made contact. Turn one had Super Modified's scattering in every direction trying to avoid Schultz and Henes. Larry Lehnert in the #92 couldnt get his machine slowed up in time and slid hard into the turn one wall and rolled over on its side. The best news was Lehnert was ok, the bad news is we had a lengthy cleanup. The delay allowed the Henes and Schultz teams to make repairs to their machines, they would restart at the tail. After a couple quick cautions for the #5 of Kevin Shirey, the race ran the final 22 circuits under green conditions. Lesiecki seemed to have a better car on the short runs and Paller was better on the long runs. Paller would get exactly what he needed, no cautions. Schultz and Henes were fun to watch, picking their way up thru the field, but both were unable to catch the caution they needed. Paller would set sail and claim his first MSA Super Modified Victory. Following the South Amherst OH driver in the Precision Welding, Morris Farms, Draime Race Engines sponsored #64 was Shultz, Henes, Lesiecki and "Hollywood" Mike McVetta.
Mike Miller in the #53 and the #6 of Larry Baker brought the McIntosh Oil Company Late Model's down to start their 30 lap event. Miller was able to race out front with the #28 of the "Mountain State Missile" Jonathan Reitter on his tail. After a quick debris caution, Reitter was able to clear Miller on the high side and hang on to the top spot after a couple early restarts. The car on the move was the car that has been the strongest since Season Championship Night last year. After a rollercoaster season in 2014 that had more valley's than peak's, 2015 may be shaping up to be the best of Bubba Smith's career. The #12 machine was the fastest qualifier several times this season, he has 3 feature wins and 7 top 5 finishes in 8 races. Bubba would be on the outside of Reitter for the Lap 7 restart and after a lap and a half battle, was able to clear the #28 and move to the bottom lane. The race would see the final caution wave on lap twenty-four, setting up one more opportunity for Reitter. At the drop of the green Reitter battled hard, but just didnt have the car on this night. Rounding out the top five behind the North Canton OH pilot of the Finish Line Motors, Finish Line Designs, Smith's Auto Sales, Freedom Auto Finance sponsored #12 was Reitter, Bryant Smith, Miller and Matthew Mills.
The JD Byrider Street Stocks took to the 3/10 mile oval for their 20 lapper with TJ Barker in the #11 and Kelly Wissman in the #00 starting on the front row. Barker was able to get the early nod via the bottom of the racing surface. After an early caution on lap two, Larry Smith in the #44 took over second, Waylon Orr in the #28 and Kyle Grove in the #3 were all charging up the middle to crack into the top 5. Just as Orr got to 3rd, he drastically slowed off turn four and was lucky not to be collected by another car, ending his night. Smith would make contact with the rear bumper of Barker on lap six, sending the #11 spinning and the #44 to the tail. On the final restart on lap seven, Grove was able to make the move for the top spot on the back straightaway. Grove absolutely left the rest of the field in his dust as he would cruise to his 3rd feature victory in 2015. Following the JD Byrider, CNAC Financing, El Pueblito Mexican Cuisine, TC Auto, Stewart's Flooring, South Philly Pizza, Greg's Recovery, Belknap's Body Shop sponsored #3 to the finish was Points leader Colton Ritchey, Gary Hoopingarner who came from deep in the field, Smith and Bob Passwaters Jr.
The finale on the evening was the 20 lap Canton Auto Salvage Compact feature. Brandon France in the #38 and Cristian Bailey in the #46 took the green first. Bailey was able to race out front with Alan Clark in the #169 close behind. Fastest Qualifier Joe Oliver in the #50 was on the prowl from way back on the starting grid. After the only caution flew on lap two, Oliver who restarted 8th, was already up to 2nd by lap five. On lap eight he was able to pass Bailey for the top spot. Just as everyone thought Oliver would sail off into the moonlight, John McNutt in the #69 and Gage Jaberg in the #21 had other ideas. They would run down the #50 and take multiple shots at getting by. Lap after lap one of them would take a shot at him. But each time they fired, Oliver had the answer. Oliver would hang on for another victory for the Stewart's Flooring, Oliver's Garage, Bad Boy Sandblaster's sponsored #50. Rounding out the top 5 was Jaberg, McNutt, Mike Swaney and Bailey.
Next Saturday Night July 25th is Skipco Auto Auction Night featuring Kid's Bicycle Races.
