Rosenberry & Walker Claim Midvale Wins
August 23, 2014
Rosenberry & Walker Claim Midvale WinsA number of familiar faces found victory lane this past Saturday, August 31 at Midvale Speedway. Fans were treated to a full show of all five divisions plus spectator drags, the McDonalds cruise in exhibition, and an ice bucket challenge for ALS.

Doug Sommers, crate engine and all, led the first five laps of the McIntosh Oil Company Late model feature. On lap six, fellow veteran Tom Stankiewicz assumed the point. The Strongsville, Ohio driver led until about the halfway point when top qualifier Alex Rosenberry raced by in the high lane. The 17 year old came from the third row, despite battling slick conditions due to some weepers from high amounts of rainfall. Once out front, Rosenberry was in control but action behind him was furious. Both point contenders, Mike Miller and Bob Schneider, Jr., had tires go down during the race. Both were able to continue but Schneider fell laps down pitside. At the checkered of the 30-lap grind, it was the Rosenberry Towing/Flite Test #2 followed by Sommers, Larry Baker with his best Midvale finish, Matthew Mills, and Miller. The rest of the top ten were Stankiewicz, Dave Martin, Roger Linard, Rick Sibila, and Emerson Huffman. Linard, Schneider, and Sibila won the heats while Rosenberry set fast time.

Don Boron, Jr., a rookie in the Summit Racing Economy Modified division, led the first 19 laps in the feature event. The 22-car field saw a lot of great racing through the pack, much of which was provided by Preston Walker. The Akron, Ohio driver started deep in the field and methodically worked his way to the front. By halfway, Walker had picked up five spots and picked up six more over the next ten laps to take the lead from Boron. On a late race restart, Boron tried to race the high lane and clipped the front stretch wall, ending his great run. In the end, it was Walker taking his first feature win of the season. Following the Kim Tittle Enterprises/Locks2u.com #30 were Glen Jewell, Tyler Noeske who had the lead for a small time toward the end, Lee McCreery, and Kevin McClintock. Other top ten finishers were Mike Bowers, Tim Westerfield, Jr., Jason Grewell, Brandon Bailey, and Braden Swaney. Mike Green, Boron, and Bailey won the heats. Bowers set fast time.

The 20-lap JD Byrider Street Stock feature was led early by Waylon Orr but it was short lived as he went under his qualifying time on lap three. That made the going a little bit easier for point runner up Dennis Wood. Wood took the lead after the ensuing restart and dominated his way to his fifth win in the last six features. The Automotive Electric/Right Priced Motors #41 was followed by point leader Mike Martin, Gary Hoopingarner, Cody Collmar, and Bob Passwaters, Jr. Hoopingarner forgot to stop at tech originally, eliminating him from the rundown. Moving info fifth was Bob Passwaters, Sr. Hoopingarner and Collmar won heats. Martin set fast time.

In the fast feature of the Canton Auto Salvage Compact division, Clayton Oliver led the first nine laps in hopes of taking his first win of the year. On lap ten, though, top qualifier Kyle Rector showed some muscle by racing out front from a starting spot at the back of the field. For Rector, it was his second win driving the #22 and his third overall this season. Justin Renicker, Blaine Salsberry, Kyle Finlayson, and Oliver completed the top five.

New Philadelphia, Ohio driver Chase Beatty took the lead on the second lap of the Compact B feature. From there, he protected the inside lane carefully to hold off a number of challengers including Gage Jaberg who was seeking his fourth feature win. At the checkered, the D&A Towing/Pringle's Auto Body #75 was followed by Jaberg, Allen Clark, Andy Heath, and Tim Westerfield.

Compact prelims were taken by Braden Swaney, Bruce Gibson, and Chase Beatty.

Keith Anderson was out front for the first six laps of the Finish Line Motors Mini Truck feature before a three wide move by Cyler Bertram put him out front. Some contact ensued during the pass, hindering the Anderson machine. Mike Martin moved into second. At the checkered, it was Bertram taking win #6 for the #155.

Jerrod Martin won the Spectator Drag event that saw a record number of participants.

At intermission, fans donated $725 for the ALS foundation and track owners Randy & Sue Smith matched it for a $1450 donation. Randy Smith was then dowsed with a bucket of ice water.

Full rundowns are posted below Main Event info.
